Another piece of the puzzle arrived today.

The OEM intake assembly for the non-snorkel trucks (like mine) takes up a bunch of room at the front corner of the engine bay. The pipe that draws fresh air from the inner fender is right in the corner of the bay.

However, the snorkel-type intake is a slightly different design, which draws air from a different section of the inner fender. This frees up real estate for my A/C plumbing. It’s also bolt-on for both trucks (snorkel and non-snorkel).

I will still need to get a snorkel-type windscreen washer tank before I can finalize the layout.

My snorkel intake assembly even came with a turbo-style top cover. So I don’t have to buy a new top when I install the turbo setup. Win!

Whoa... where'd you find that?! I couldn't find one in the UAE... had to have mine modified.

Sorry, for the lack of progress. Things have gotten very busy at work. And my brother gets married next month, so lots of social commitments these days.

Anyway, I tried to make a little progress this weekend. Because I swapped to the “snorkel-style” intake, I needed the “snorkel-style” windshield washer tank.

Unfortunately, the new tank interfered with my A/C receiver dryer setup.

The tank isn’t even mounted in this photo, and already resting on the dryer/bracket.

So today I modified the receiver dryer bracket and was able to get everything to clear (barely).

Plus, went ahead and wired the trinary switch for A/C compressor and aux fan relay.

I still have lots of detail work to do in the interior. Plus plumb all the A/C lines.

Anybody ever fabricate their own A/C hardlines?

Will, Austin Rebuilders is the way to go. They can fabricate any line or hose you need. They’re on Oltorf off of S. 1st.

I’m a glutton for punishment. I want to fabricate them myself.

Will,
That AC kit that Joeri sells uses generic AC hardware that you can get all over the place. Pair that with the correct AC barrier hose and a crimper and you can easily make AC hoses. I have an AC hose/fitting crimper kit if you need it. Worked great when I switched to a higher efficiency parallel flow condenser on the FJ60 with 1HZ conversion.

Thanks,

David

be interested in how you go about doing your own hoses, I will be needing some new hoses at some time too.

Soft flex hoses are easy to fabricate. It's the hardlines that are tricky. I want to be able to fabricate both myself.

...But I may have a solution soon. Stay posted.

I made some progress on my A/C this morning. I bent the #10 suction hose hardline to the compressor.

The fittings still need to be attached to the hardline. My plan is to try brazing stainless steel. Anybody have any tips/experience with brazing stainless?

Why stainless? AC hard lines are typically aluminum, right?

Because I wanted to fabricate my own hardlines.

I only found stainless fittings and stainless hardlines if you’re fabricating yourself.

Understood... the guy who does my hose/hard line fab uses aluminum and brazes/welds it with sticks and MAPP gas.

Yessir, I have researched several solutions to brazing stainless with MAP gas and high silver content braze/solder. We’ll see!

I'm watching closely... it'd be a pretty solid skill to acquire. With all the AC installs I do on my imports I could cut my costs a bit not outsourcing.

Bear in mind, it was just the intake filter canister, not the whole snorkel assembly.
Dang, they're out of stock now. I have the same challenge, may have to go Modding to make it work. I picked up a donor air cleaner housing from the local Toyota junkyard (from a 3Fe 80series!) the outlet on that may be able to be used on my original (which is the same as your top 'before' pic
) Thanks for the photos, has given me the motive to get mine hooked up finally, here's hoping!

Try emailing him directly. Sometimes he has parts not posted on the website yet.

Well, I tried my luck at brazing stainless. Finished plumbing the A/C lines in the engine bay.

I still need to finish interior, flush the lines, pull vacuum, confirm it’s holding pressure, and add refrigerant.

Plus finish radio and gauge install.
