Hello everyone! I have been on MUD for a bit and it has helped me a lot fixing my 70 and 80. so now I wanted to start this to post my progress on my car. Just as info to look back onto and if any one has a question or wants to make something similar well I will be more than happy to help. Hope people enjoy it

This is about making a trip in Colombia from the Snow Cap Mountains all the way to the Desert on the north of the country. Im a profesional photographer/surfer/mountain biker, so this will be a nice adventure. Of corse I need this car to work flawlessly since it will be going to preatty remote places by itself. Any input is highly appreciated.

Bro!

I would make a list of all the modifications I wanted, then search this forum to see what others have done - especially if they list pros and cons of the mod. As usual, searching for one modification will lead to reading about something else you never thought of but now desire.
I would start with base lining to ensure that all is functioning well, then shift into modifications.
And of course, document your changes for others to read about!

Yeah! That is basically what is going to happend. In any case. This is how I got the Toyota. I got it with:

Toyota FZJ80 1994
Dobison/ironman suspension
It's the VX version so full electronic Windows and FF axel
Double Bateries (took them out since it didn't work)
33 tires on 15 rim
Front and rear metal bumper
And other crap I forget

For now the upgrades will be.

Front and rear lockers ( I want electronic, any suggestions?)

Swing arm tire carrier

Natural Gas conversion so it runs on natural gas as well as petrol. This is very common in colombia and you get very good Mialege

TRD supercharger

315/75R16 wheels so 35 equivalent

Fix all the paint

Front winch

Rear winch

LED bars

Ok. So to start since it a used car that was used for off-road I'm looking at everything.

The car was converter from carburetor to injection using a very old Haltech F10x computer. It's serial port but it works.

So I had to get a Windows XP computer. A USB to serial converter and look at all the wiring to connect it.

The programming was made very bad so I had to sit for a couple of nights to read all the manuals and set it up to a point where it's running very well on the Road.

The thing is you really have to use a Dino to do this right so I will be looking at this next week.

At the moment this is the supercharger I already put on it last week.

Unfortunately I didn't star this threat when I got the truck (1 month ago) so I already did some things.

This is how it turned out on this 80.

I had it installed on my 70 so I took it out and installed it here.

The 70 had an engine rebuilt and it's a lot lighter than this so it doesn't need it as much.

This are more pictures of the car the day I got it. So you can see the transformation.

One thing I forgot to mention was that this truck has 2 gasoline tanks stock and it had the EGR removed.

It also has automatic locker on the rear. It drives ok but I definitely want electronic lockers.

Hey much can you get a snorkel there for an fzj80? My mom is in Bogota maybe she can bring it to me.
Hey bro.

Actually it would be a lot cheaper in the states. Here there are knock offs and it's like the ones you find on eBay so just go for that. Safari is more here than in the states.

Colombia is land cruiser paradise for everything mechanical and spare parts. If you need anything like that I can help you out. But 4x4 outfit it's better in the states.

This Snorkle in particular came with the car when I got it and have never seen it before or since. I can look to see if there is a reference number or something. I like it because it's very small on the side so the profile is nicer that. The safari. But it's just my opinion.

Ok. So today I fixed something that has bothered me for a while. And I have also seen it on other LC so maybe it's someone's problem. I found the solution to be super cheap and effective so maybe it would be useful for someone.

Problem: the throttle body acceleration line sags and can't be efectively tensioned with the acres that is supplied with.

Solution:

Cut the line and use a very small piece of metal with an indent to secure it.

A shop in medellin makes this. The job cost $4 Dolares (colombia is LC heaven) and they manufacture the end piece that goes at the end after the cut.

The pictures show what it is but I will explain.

Basically it's a metal cylinder that is about 4mm diameter X 12mm length. On one end it has a hole that only goes to about 3 mm deep. On the center of the cylinder that make a hole that is the same diameter as the acceleration line that they are trying to fix.

After cutting the line and fitting the clilinder in, they use a hand made puncher (a cone like metal tool that fits inside the 3mm deep hole that is on one of the sides) and push it against the clilinder thru the side hole.

This pressure brakes the remanding metal that sits between the center hole where the wire is and the side hole. So it hold the wire in place securly.

I hope I made it clear. The pictures illustrate the steps.

Also we used a lighter to burn the plastic wrap that the accelerator line is in since this would prevent the metal on metal contact that is necessary for a secure fit.

Another thing I did to the car was start fixing the front bumper.

Im putting a Warn 8274 up in front and take the existing Milemaker or whatever name it is to the back.

I have to cut the existing tube that is holding the lights upfront and move the bumper 5cm front so that the winch will fit. Also have to cut the top of the bumper to accommodate the hight of the winch.

at this point i only need to cut the top and so some structural welding to that the winch pulls on the bumper secure locations and not just the front of the bumper. I will figure it out and put some pics of that as well.

Here are some pics.

some rally photos i took during assignment for a moto brand in Colombia, part of my job. I took the car so it was a good test. It was right after installing the supercharger so it did very well!!! also in 105F heat and it didn't overheat!
