You guys don't get humid days where you need the defrost? I don't think I would eliminate all air in the cab.

the only humid area is in the port city (Port Sudan)....a beautiful place during winter (aka 20 degrees centigrade that is)....and until this day i have NEVER had to use defrost....the ONLY time i recall using the heater was during a hunting trip...the guide was a poor local so i gave him my sleeping bag ...at night i almost froze to death and climbed into my (at the time Nissan Patrol) to warm up....

but never used defrost.

i guess for the sake of having the cruiser...i might just do the normal rear heater cancel by pass.....who knows....i might end up doing an Africa route one day...right

got the insulator today , FINALLY.....but tomorrow (which is in about 3 hours time) i need to go for a long boring meeting.... will start sending pics of the installation as i work along....

i cleaned the inside to the last screw/bolt and plastic two days ago...guess i will need to do a quick wash again so the contact cement holds properly

most, if not all, the wiring is now either fully wrapped in duct tape or has plastic tubing around them....measured and re-measured.....soldered and wrapped in duct tape (2 layers as Bilt4Me advised)..

keep delaying stuff because of the availability of things here....and the junkyard is miles away...sorry...will try to get back on track soon...especially now the kids have started their summer holiday..

where does the lever for the heater valve come through....mine had nothing attached to it....AND it was open....guess thats why i lost 12Kg driving it the past period....my own mobile sauna

NOrmally it is on the firewall right next to the head on the RH side.

loool..thats the Normal case...guess u havent seen my first posts with images what mine looks like....VERY abnormal to start with...but hey...im getting there bit by bit

how does it connect to the AC controls...mine is the old lever type single AC....?

i did find a 'bunch' of what appear to be lever cables for the AC thrown in the 'not working' fridge when i bought the cruiser....so im guessing there is this long blue one...but not sure how to hook it up.

the so called Wool insulator...

hope it works to help deaden noise and reduce heat

the guy said its fire resistant and semi water proof.....so....i did a quick test....using my lighter and its great....didnt expect that when i saw the material..... will do a quick wash test on a small piece to see how water proof it is...but in any case....our Sun here will dry anything out.....add water and our HOT summers.....and i end up like im plate in a dishwasher...loooooool

made up of two layers with a very thin layer of something in between....not so sure its clear in the pic...but take a look at the corners....very light weight....and very strong surprisingly.

another thing....i couldnt find the cruiser carpet....would any carpet cut to size work....we have these thin "office' type carpets in the market with a plastic type mesh at the back....they dont bend easily....but anything will give way once heated a bit in the sun....

should i...?? yes...no....??

Moe, If you look at the last picture in post #4, you will see the heater control valve on the firewall between the valve cover and the master cylinder. Hope that helps, as far as running your wires, I would run them in one of the plastic sheaths and run them first, then the insulation, then the carpet.

Yes I know thats the valve....it has an open and shut lever...where does that go or connect....im sure it has some sort of lever inside...

It should connect via cable to the interior climate control, specifically to the slider that controls the temp range from cold to hot. Pic does not show much but might help.

heeeeeeeeeey...we are back.....love the new interface...thanx @woody for the great work....we are addicted (even if we are still just forum regulars :D )

well...back to my Zombie....

been busy the past few days on a Graphics design for a local channel (branding, ID etc)....AND....FINALLY....got paid a cheque that was overdue for almost a year now.....so......as i thought the government owned company wont be paying...didnt put it in any budgets at home....so its ALLLLLL mine.... :D

coming soon to a zombie near you..
1- ARB front Bumper...maybe rear one also depending on price and availability
2- complete paint job (dark grey upper, monsterliner black lower and grey interior)
3- complete upholstery interior
4- new AC compressor and piping
5- reconditioning my gearbox, bearings and diffs
6- new shocks (front and rear)
7- MAYBE...those new looking HID lights...maybe
8- High lift jack
9- looking into a second hand winch...nothing big....just enough pull to get me some traction when needed.

all this.....estimated cost here....around US$1390.....yep...the dollar here is worth 8.4 Sudanese Guinea (pounds). The majority of parts (1,5,8 and 9) come from totaled cars from the UN forces or some that are imported from Saudi Arabia or the Emirates.... will have to see, test before i buy because the only warranty they provide is the drive from their shop to the main street...

once again....happy to be back

forgot to mention...
- did the complete floor insulator
- wiring completed and tested....made decision to upgrade some of the wires...felt some heat when testing.
- cleaning and greasing of door window motors
- installed pneumatic door locks and wireless key (lock / unlock only) and alarm (made in china unfortunately due to availability)
- sent old headliner and new synthetic leather (thick type of vinyl) to fabricator (US$ 40)
- did the rear heater removal and by pass....PITA to get the rear heater pipes out.

had to take everything out again to get the car prepped for paint....waiting for tow truck to come when the paint alley is open.
will be off to industrial /second hand area to check for things i want .

will keep photos coming once im back on track.....stay tuned

Sent the Zombie to the paint shop yesterday....wanted a complete redo...stripping, priming and colour.... i chose something similar to the dark grey on the new hyundais (http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&...cMDw&iact=rc&dur=4477&page=3&start=48&ndsp=23) and a matt black lower....side steps will be grey, front and rear bumpers matt black...wheels matt black...roof rack glossy black....

any advice/suggestions...... they will start by removing the engine and gearbox, which i will take to get re-conditioned...so we still have a few days or a week before any paint starts going in...

got a new (secondhand) engine hood....mine was apparently involved in an accident and was welded from the inside.

what should i also revise once the engine is out???

will delay the interior until paint is almost done.....cant afford to get a haboob (massive sand storms) destroy everything before they are installed..

will take this week off working on the re-wiring.....but will look for better wires in the meanwhile

tomorrow i need to go and look for the bumpers, high lift and maybe a winch....will also buy wood for the door panels and the custom center console.....also heard a guy here sells the actual car carpet material....instead of my idiotic idea of installing office carpet ...D'ooooh
