Yes, to be more accurate, mine is not 100% level. It's out a few millimeters like that. Like you, I am fine with that. I have had OME suspensions lean big time, that I put spacers in. So, I am happy just not needing spacers.

An update on the 5th gear swap.

Originally I wanted to get Dyna 5th gears, that would've given me a 5th gear ratio of 0.69 (although I would've ended up not ever using 5th gear in Malta), but the part numbers I needed were recently absolete so that never happened. Since I already had the tranny disassembled I really wanted to put in a higher 5th gear, so I went into research mode. I came across a Jeep forum where this guy swapped an R151 first gear and cluster shaft into his AX15 to get lower 1st gear. Apparently both the R151 and AX15 were manufactured by Aisin and share lots of parts, so I looked at its 5th gear and looked pretty identical but counting 25/47 as opposed to 26/46 on the R151. I bought the gears (main gear and cluster gear) from cobratransmission and costed about €150 to Malta (under $100 for both). When they arrived I compared them to the R151 gears and they're identical apart from a shoulder on the main gear. Easy fix for me since I have access to wire-cut and grinding machines at work. Didn't want to machine it on a lathe not to tamper with any material treatment. Everything mated well and FINALLY got the tranny done and installed.

Result: The gearbox drives and shifts perfectly but does a little bit of a racket on neutral. Apparently its rollover noise and some gearboxes are just prone to it, even after a rebuild. Infact some transmission remanufacturing companies even have it listed in their warranty terms and conditions. It does'nt really mean anything as to tranny operation and reliability, its just a little annoying until you get used to it (and possibly re-sale value but I'm never parting anyway lol). Actually did manage to lessen the noise just abit by using a 75W-140 oil, but still easily noticeable. Back to the 5th gear, I can now cruise 100kph at 2500~2600rpm as opposed to the previous 2700~2800rpm.

Today started the long due rock sliders. Using 50x6mm plate for the chassis mounts, 50x50x5mm square section for the main channel and 1 1/4" schedule 40 pipe (42mm OD 3.5mm w.t.) for the sliders. The front mount using the tranny cross-member front bolts still needs to be fully gusseted on both sides (making it into a U channel).

Anyone knows how I can change this thread into a 'Builds' thread ? Thanks.

no idea, mine just became one overnight after a visit from the builds thread fairy

Yeah mine's too now, I found a comment saying to just report my post and the admins will take care of it, and I have done so and so has the admin :)

Hey, I'm curious what your R151 tranny came out of.
I also have a LJ79 with the 3L. I want a higher 5th for better cruising and the g52 is whining a bit, so I know it'll need bearings at some point.
So I've been considering a swap.
The R151F seems like a good candidate. What did you need to make the swap complete? If I'm not mistaken the R151 is found behind the 1KZ 4 runners and prados, but I'm 100% sure about that. From what I'm seeing the bell housing is different, what did you use to adapt it? I also read the 151 uses an electronic speedo, while ours has a mechanical, is that the case?
Anything info you can give would be super helpful.
Thanks in advance

The R151 came with turbo engines while G52 with n/a engines. Mine is off an LJ71 (2L-T) so used bellhousing that came with it since its also an L engine. There isnt much difference in 5th gear ratio between R151 and G52, so if you want a higher 5th you'd have to modify that like I did (details in my posts further up) or change your diff ratios but if you're running a stock 3L I wouldn't suggest that.

Oh and speedo on my R151 was also mechanical, as was transfer case shifts (some are vacuum operated) but you could use your transfer case if that is the case but use transfer input shaft and sleeve from transfer that came with R151, since G52 has different output shaft splines.

I never know what is best to get the scale off metal.

You use something like this?

Put on some paint today, applied it with a paintbrush around welds and a foam roller on flats, comes out pretty nice. Used this paint before for my bumpers, pretty decent. I add some 2k hardener to it to make it stronger. Applied directly to bare metal.

Installed the ARB compressor today and wired the switches. I made a platform for the compressor which is fixed to the inner panel as shown and uses the upper bolt/stud of the fuel filler door.
