Guess I’ll file under GTK. The 51515 that came on it and the one I changed had no issues in the 7000 I’ve driven it. Must be manufacturing quality issues.

Easy enough to get a different filter. I’d prefer Mann but not sure they offer one that would work.

Last time I was at O'Reilly they were selling OEM Toyota oil filters

I go to Walmart and get a Motorcraft FL-1A (OEM Ford F-150 filter) and whatever oil I feel like buying. Last time was 15W-40 Super Tech HD Diesel Oil. Said it was rated for diesel or gas. Good enough for me. Cheaper than Rotella, Delo, etc.

Back on topic though. Those distributor covers trap more water than they repel. I don’t even use mine. It’s in a box with all my other stock bits.

@Fieldtester96 where are you currently at on the truck? Cleaned distributor, now it idles normally, but your cat is glowing?

Up and running, drove it around just seems like its working through stuff. From what i can figure i just pushed alot of gas into the cat causing it to glown all of what ive read online says it should be fine after some driving.

It still shakes, though it always has done that. It just seems like its a little more pronounced now. It has happened before when i would work on the car and disconnect the ECU. It would just shake for a while then start running better once i drove it.

How old is the catalytic converter? Your 62 should not “shake.”

The cat is old i need to replace it. the shake happens intermittently and goes away when ran for awhile.

Right now im having a problem with the idle when i first try to start it. Once its warm the it idles fine. I was not having an issue with the idle before this whole problem

Are you sure all of the plug wires are completely seated since you have been messing with the distributor?

Did you accidentally dislodge a vacuum line while you were doing all of this work? Always go back to what you just did when a new problem shows up..

Ive checked both of those. I think it might be a leak on the emissions line that runs into the throttle body so im going to put a new gasket on it and see if that fixes it

Good news is after driving it around the cat problem is gone. Must have burnet out the excess fuel. The only problem now is to sit in traffic i have to have the throttle out to keep the rpms up. But highway and around town speeds have no issues

Yes, having owned two VWs, I was impressed with Mann's quality. They don't make an oil filter for the 60/62/80/100 unfortunately

Where in Virginia are you located?

I buy 10 packs of them for my Saab DD. I went and bought the Denso filter off Rockauto. I ordered 4 of them at about $3 each,

should be this one on the right

Think I just realized the ones I got are the small body units. this is turning into a saga.

went to the denso site and checked my rockauto order...turns out the one I ordered was 150-2010...this one pictured here is 150-1004. the 2010 is like 3.5x3.5 in size...so the smaller car size not the big can. I looked up the 150-1004 and the denso site indicates the 1004 has been discontinued and has been replaced by the 150-2066.....which is 130mm tall and 95mm in diameter.

The Mahle OC706 looks like a possibility too.

I'll be at the dealer on Friday...I'll see what they have too.

Norfolk

Also that leak fixed the stalling and the shakes. Now the shake is almost nonexistent, so i think my next step would be replacing all the seals going into the throttle body.

Ah gotcha. Sorry if I missed that. Maybe see if anyone in the local cruiser club would want to help out?

I met a nice guy who is local who wanted to help but i was able to figure out the problem before he was free.

With this being my DD i needed to get it fixed ASAP. So i didn't really have time to wait around for help. Luckily i got you guys to help me figure out how dumb, so thank you all.

Completely understand. I owe probably 80% of my automotive knowledge to 'Mud. This is a resource that is unmatched.

Oh i agree, the only automotive knowledge i had was from my '80 el camino. A Chevy small block with hardly any electronics does not really transfer over to a 3fe. This community has definitely helped me learn more.
