So here are some pictures of the engine prior to going into the truck.

Before I started bolting things on, the valve cover was polished by hand (this sucked!) and the block was painted and treated with KBS Motor Coater (Gloss Black). Yes, I know, All show and no go! 😂

I decided to go with TG’s power flow TC style pump kit and a GM 100 amp 1 wire alternator.

Per Marlin Crawler’s advice, I installed a HD clutch and flywheel meant for a Turbo truck. The only difference is more surface area for more grabbing power.

It also received a new Bosch starter.

Into the truck she goes.

It also received new Brake and Clutch master cylinders.

These are the best pictures of steering shaft.
It came out of an 86 Toyota 4x4 and fit perfectly. It was taken apart bead blasted/painted.

The Header was also a good fit.

During this time, I had placed an order for a DUI distributor ( The long one, meant to work with a power steering pump). Welllllll once it showed up, it was apparent that it wouldn’t work with my TC style power steering pump. One of the lines that exits the pump was crashing right into the distributor body. Luckily, Brian over at DUI was super cool and I was able to return the Distributor.
They have since changed the description on their website that says “only for OEM style pumps”.
They make a really nice product, but unfortunately it wouldn’t work for my application. (I did however buy a set of their awesome 11mm LiveWire spark plug wires.)

Soon after sending it back for a refund, I place an order with LC engineering for a new distributor and Summit racing for a new MSD6AL ignition box.

Hard to believe that's the same truck that left my house!
Hey my friend, Yes, although it pretty much looks the same, it is quite different. She’s now drives probably better than when she was new. It no longer smells like gasoline when you park it in the garage. 😂 As I mentioned before, I have been terrible about keeping up with the thread and taking pictures. There hasn’t been one square inch that I haven’t gone over. I am currently wrapping up the interior, which will come a little later in the thread. I hope to have done you and your little truck proud.
Thanks!

Back when I purchased the truck, I had all I intentions of having the bench seat reupholstered. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t do it. Way too uncomfortable for me. I found a nice set of buckets out of a Subaru Forester that seem to fit pretty well with a little fabrication. I will keep the original bench seat just incase I ever want to go back to original. At this time I also ordered a Tuffy 6.5” wide console to fit between the seats and a new vinyl floor mat.

While waiting on the the ignition stuff to arrive, the time had come to move the shifter holes in the transmission tunnel. Again, 4,5/8” was perfect.
New metal was welded in the original holes.

With the old shifter holes welded up. A new shift boot plate was made out of stainless steel. I then used Nutserts and stainless screws to attach the new boots to trans tunnel.

Here’s a picture of the transmission right before it went in.

Very interested to know how well the Holley sniper fuel injection works out for you.
I want to add this to my truck but have heard some bad reviews from guys that installed into their Toyota’s.

So far it’s been great! It starts so easily even in the cold weather. I’m not sure why they get a bad rap. Follow the install instructions and you should be fine. It’s so much better than the carb.

I loved the Holley Sniper on my FJ40 w/ 2F.

I didn’t care for the Trail Gear Power Steering cooler, so I opted to buy one from Summit Racing. It fits perfectly hidden on the lower cross section of the frame between the bumper and the lower portion of the radiator.

Here’s Trail Gear’s cooler.

Here’s the cooler I decided to use. It’s been working great!

So you are using the stock distributor? I thought the Sniper kit provided for ECM controlled spark / spark advance?

Amazing work!
Yes, the stock distributor is a magnetic pickup style and works great with the MSD and Holley Sniper.
You can control the timing advance with the Holley, but need to lock out the vacuum advance and clock the rotor 15 degrees. There’s a write up on Holley’s website that shows how to do this.
Currently, I am using the vacuum to to control the advance timing. I may change it it the future to allow the Holley control it, but for now it’s running like the carburetor setup and is working really good.
