Only thing left is to decide is how much of the door felt I want/need to replace. The upper, inner and outer felts are original but in decent condition. I don't know if the upper door felt needs to be removed to install the lower felt? Do my kids need to go to college?

No need for college. Send them in to the trades. We need people to pay for all the school loan forgiveness. I’ve had door felts waiting for more than six years. Still putting off the project.

Drivers door, rear lower felt channel, is squeaking obnoxiously against the upper felt channel. The hole in the door the secures the lower channel is thin and broken out. I am assuming this is root cause of my drivers door glass rattle.

I have not decided if it will be best to TIG weld filler rod or weld in a patch panel from a donor door (stalled half door project)
Drill the hole oversized and TIG in a flat washer, flush. Don’t scavenge from your half door project !

I found the exact door felt, perfect fit for replacement at about 1/4 the cost. I will shoot you the source when I get back from the 24hr

I spend some time going thru the gauge cluster. Now it looks pretty

I originally pulled the gauge cluster to address the cooling fan that was put on a rocker switch. There is a 5 amp inline fuse behind the gauge cluster that controls the cooling fan control module/relay that had been bypassed.

I replaced the inline fuse and now the cooling fan works properly.

I was able to find an OEM speedometer cable, and things got interesting.

My 2/79 US spec fj40 has a (5x18) speedometer driven gear. I have not been able to find any information anywhere on a 5 x 18 driven speedometer gear in a FJ40 transfer case. My truck should/did come originally with a (6 x 16) driven gear.

8/80 drums would be awesome since you already have floor mount brake handle, figuring that out on a 79-older is the only bad part of that conversion
