I am new to Toyota stuff, But Im pretty sure this is a 2H?
This engine came from a 78 HJ45 I am fixing up. Going with a Gas motor swap. The guy I bought it from wasn't sure what was wrong with it, but it did not run when I pulled it. The oil pan had a lot of water in it, as well as the exhaust. It needs a rebuild for sure. Comes with the factory 4 speed and Toyota T case. It was all taken out together and put on a pallet. The air intake is missing, it had a rigged up auto zone unit on it. Located near Charlotte NC. I can load it or deliver within a 100 miles or so. Asking $1200 for it all. Also have radiator and fan shrouds with it and will sell the driveshafts which fit the fj or HJ45 with the long bed.

Looks like an H diesel (valve cover is square-ish, direction of thermostat housing). Someone put a 2H fuel filter housing on it. 2H didn't come out until early 1980.

For reference, here is an H from my (no longer own it, though) 79 HJ45.

Looks nice, clean shop!
Look for the 2H stamp on the driver side of the block near the rear. I've made ID mistakes and thankfully got schooled by spangly before I drove a hundred miles to look at it. GLWS

The motor is an H motor, not castings for a 2H on the block.

I see you are new to mud. Welcome to the madness! You should go to the FJ45 club section and start a build thread on your truck.

I will for sure, I have been on here a lot before and just now registered for the real madness to start haha

That power steering pump setup is likely worth about as much as the whole engine

The pics are not very good. it appears to be a homemade setup, but does work. The transmission and transfer case are sold, the motor is still available. Will post pics later. Asking $500 for the motor and all accessories. It is an H model motor.

The H is very hard to find parts for in North America. Someone that's trying to keep an H alive should grab this.

I had an H in my Troopy when I bought it. I put a turbo on it. Ran great with the turbo for a little while. But I couldn't keep a head gasket in it. I gave up and pulled the H. Still slowly converting to a 3B.

Yes I figure someone would buy it for parts, most are wanting a 2H it seems

@78HJ45 for those looking for a 2H please send them my way. I have a very nice unit I need out of my garage!

BTW it sounds like you and Roma had a good initial meeting this weekend!

Thanks,
Michael <>>
