Right on! I have been avoiding the roof due to space constraints and I'm hoping to find a one-peice replacement. I'd like to remove the seam from the roof altogether for better sealing/longevity. Are you completely rebuilding the roof or reusing some parts?

Where you at in your build now?! :)[/QUOTE]

The whole roof is in the thrash! I mean was! Garbage truck already took it yesterday!!! Have some ideas for a new roof just need to put some thought and a bit of time into it!

And regarding your build: any progress is better than no progress!

Agreed...work is work! Keep it up. I still want the Max Coupler, but until they workout the issues I went with just a hook & pintle system for my trailer.

I love when I get on mud to find someone doing the exact same thing I am. Keeps me motivated! Subscribed...

Get outside- You scrapped the entire roof?! I was afraid to ditch it all, I hope to replace just the top sheet of aluminum/insulation/ceiling board. What kind of ideas do you have to reconstruct the roof? Are you going to use any of the old roof at all? Or are you going to completely redesign/rebuild your roof?

Adventure Copan- Lunette and Pintle is certainly a great way to go. I'm not in a rush, so I plan to wait for the Max Coupler. I do hope they figure out a solution to their latest issue sooner rather than later...

CarmMontana- What are you building?! Are you making a pop up more off road worthy also? Or? Got any pics? :)

I was able to work on the pop up for an ENTIRE hour this past weekend! Finished ripping out the interior walls and cabinets. I plan to rip out the floor next...

Yep doing the same thing. Working on sourcing the axle now. Thought I had a Coleman but it was rough. Picked up a Starcraft and I'm in the tear down phase. Got on mud and I'm excited another mudder, especially a 55 owner, is doing the same. I have a few pics of what she is but not to far into it yet. Hoping to have it down to the main body by this week.

Man those builds are a lot of work! I'm sure the reward will be great also! Keep it up.

Yep! The whole roof went to thrash! It was shot already, the paneling inside was rotting and it was hanging very low in the middle! To me it makes more sense to replace it all than try to fight it!
I'm saving the lifting mechanism with the rising posts and the 4 aluminum pieces (not sure if I'll use them) that form the top portion of the box (about a foot tall) and bolts to the posts.

You mentioned you only want to replace the aluminum sheet, the styrofoam insulation and the ceiling board!!! That's the whole roof already!!!

CarmMontana- Sweet. I dig your old pig. Cool pop up also! Thanks for posting pics. I really dig all the vintage pop up rebuilds happening on Mud right now!

Adventure Copan- Thanks again. I like projects... they're fun. :)

Get outside- I meant that I will be reusing all the side panels, but I am going to throw out the top panel/roof itself. :)

Lucy, I will have to start my own build thread but thought you might all find this picture humorous. I told myself I would only tear it down until I found good solid wood, I tend to go overboard on projects... So I really got after it and you know what, it was rotten all the way through, so this just went from a few week project to a complete rebuild, woot! I am actually pretty stoked I get to go all out.

Great!!!!! Don't we all start out thinking that same thing!?! Couple hours into the job and you realize the mess you are into!
Lots of fun!
I'm down to a bare frame now and will start my build tread as soon as I know my tax situation. I know I'll have to give a lot of $$ away this time around! :( Then I can start getting some parts.

coleman owner

did anyone have a access/step door lock they would part with, mine is broken its on a 1978 coleman saratoga 1293, your campers are similar. want to fix up mine (does not close on right rear corner 3" to high canvas torn ugly interior no indoor pluming other than a sink) and update interior so it does not look to 70's going to reupholster beds and seats and hang new paneling.
cool mods guys hope you get to enjoy your hard work soon.

CarmMontana- LOL! Classic. :)

I've been watching your build over on popupportal... you're cruising along. Nice work!

Get outside- Any other progress? Have you started that build thread yet?! :)

saratogaowner- I can't help you with the lock, but I'd love to see pics of your vintage pup! :)

Baby steps...

Brought in these old rusted Cruiser rims to have sandblasted. Seemed better than me trying to clean them up...

Pulled the springs apart and removed two small leaves from each pack. I'll be sanding these, primering and then painting them soon.

Oh, and I also received my new Max Coupler. :)

Lucy_FJ55 I'd be interested to know what your thoughts are on the Max Coupler as time goes on. Also why did you remove the small leaf springs? Was is for a smoother ride? I'm digging the vintage rims. Keep it up!

Short leaves are the stiffest leaves.

Didn't know that but it makes sense. Maybe I should do that to my trailer. I'm assuming then that would mean a smoother ride? Thanks!

Smoother ride but more stress on the long springs. The spring pack is designed to carry a certain load, if you removed leaves you will stress the remaining leaves unless you reduce the load. IMHO shocks would be a better investment to improve ride.

Right on, good to know cause I'm already gonna put on shocks. Thanks!
