I am in Choctaw beach and have 2 1976 Fj40's that I am trying to bring back to life. Give me a PM and let me know if I can help in any way. It's great to have other 40 owners local

Awesome! There are a couple of us around here. Same with you...I don't have a bunch of FJ40 knowledge, but I'm willing to learn!

Holler if you have a wrenching party!

I picked up some bolt kits from @Cruiser Corps when they were having the 15% off sale, to include some for the hood hinges. Also got the weatherstrip for it.

The screws on the body side of the hinge came off easily enough...but the hinge is adhered to the old weather stripping. I've tried to pry off, but paint started to chip. Any tips on a gentle removal strategy??

Good ole mechanical action is the answer!

I was able to get all the old weather stripping and adhesive off using a combination of 3M pad, plastic scraper, and fingernail.

There was some rust, so I decided to use a converter, then painted over that with a rustic green spray can @Cruiser Corps. I used sandpaper to rough up the converter since it was a few days after I had originally applied the converter. I taped up before spraying. Its not an exact match because of fading (and maybe a PO repaint somewhere in there)... but close enough to look good enough for me

I also used rust converter on the hinge itself, and then sprayed with the spray can (below).

I wasn't happy with how obvious the converter was, so I ended up sanding this paint way back and applying another coat. I laid this next coat on too thick, and ended up with some orange peel. After another sand, I got it good enough looking for my liking and installed with new hardware:

I will be over there next weekend, my parents live in Shalimar. I will have my 100, but would love to meet up if you guys have some time.

I think I put bicycle tube rubber from Walmart under those hinges when I refreshed my old cruiser a few years back. I did little projects I saw others on here do. I cut them to fit the shape instead of buying them; but I probably did buy them and lost them in parts stash. Most venders sell a piece of foam or rubber to go under there. At the time I was trying to cushion any metal to metal contact on the cruiser after chasing rust away.

Your repair looks good to help tidy it up. It Should help preserve your truck in the future and make it alittle nicer

Let me know when you will be in town I live in Choctaw Beach and would love to sit and talk land cruisers.
Sounds like we need a "cruiser's and coffee" next weekend!

I would join you guys sometime for “cruisers and coffee” however next weekend is the Blue Angels air show here on Pensacola Beach so I have to stay put.

Nice 40! I'm up in Monticello. Lots of cruisers up here.

Coming over thursday night or Friday morning, Blues show on Saturday (sweeeet). My parents live in Shalimar, so maybe Saturday morning?
