I have acquired a 55 and the gas tank looks to be in poor condition. It does have a auxiliary tank but I would like to see about replacing it. I have looked around for aftermarket solutions but have not found any. Is posting for one in the classified about the only alternative?

Thanks
Kevo

There is a long range aux tank available aftermarket: FJ55 Extended Range Fuel Tank

The other thing you may try is just having a radiator shop work on your existing tank. I dropped mine off this morning for a cleaning and it was 75 bux for them to go through it, clean it, and coat it.

Check out Cruiser Brothers, they sell a long range tank (55 gals.) Talk to Georg.

All true. Mosley Motors is one of our dealers...... :)

Here is some info

I had no luck getting the tank redone in my 71 FJ55. It gummed up quickly.

But it looks like you are localish to me. I've got a late model 72 FJ55 tank you can have for $20. I'm out in Georgetown, CA but make daily trip to Placerville :)
Now that sounds great! I want to get it running and a leaker tank is not a good place to start! Currently I am working 7 days a week until early October. As soon as I get a free weekend day off I'll give you a heads up and see about getting together to pick that up.

Thanks

Congrats on your acquisition.
You looking for just a stock replacement or something like the long range tanks previously mentioned?

So this Cruiser has an auxiliary tank? Don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. Where is it located?

All the auxiliary tank is a doozy. I think you could fit a person in it. It stretches from under the front seat clear back to the axle.

Here's a picture of the beastie. Sorry for the night pics.

From those pics, not a bad looking rig at all. Some bumps and bruises, but I don’t see any front fender rot or rocker rust, which is unheard of, unless some body work has been done (not sure if that’s factory paint or what).
Funny how much everyone was so in love with white spoke wagon wheels back in the day. Seems like that was the first thing everyone did!

I remember the first 55 I saw back in the 70's.... blue and white with the spokes! I was disappointed when I could not get it!

I think there has been previous body work done, but overall she seems to be in good shape. I want to check the inside floor out. Someone in their infinite wisdom decided slathering foam fill on the floor was the thing to do! I have removed a couple treated areas and found those areas to be in decent shape.
