Got the body back this week. I mounted it back on the chassis temporarily because the entire rear sill area needs to be replaced. Also, the rockers need some work. The passenger's side was dented, but that will come out pretty easy. The rest of the rig has some rust pitting here and there, but is in pretty good shape for the most part.

Looks like you are dealing with the same hurdles as I am with the rust spots. Where do you plan to get your sill? I cant decide if I should just replace the whole sill, or just the skin.

I bought mine from Kevin ( goes by Awl_TEQ here on mud) Here is a link: https://forum.ih8mud.com/merchandise-storefront/373024-40-series-misc-metal-fabrication.html

It is in transit from the great white north. If it fits half as good as it looks, I'll be thrilled. His work looks amazing!

How much hardware, as far as nuts and bolts, have you reused? And how much have you had plated? I'm currently looking into getting some hardware from my front axle plated and I'm wondering what preparation I need to do in order to submit it.

I have reused almost 100% so far. I will need to buy some body bolts, all 6 & 8 mm, because some broke when I tried to remove them.

The hardware has been by far the most work so far. The plater said that they could clean and de-rust everything, but the results were mixed at best for rusty old stuff. I ended up glass bead blasting each and every bolt, nut, washer, bracket, tab...........:bang:

Luckily, I think the results were worth the work.

nice work

question for you , what are the rear rims off of? and how do they fit?

They are from an '05 4runner. They have way too much offset and hit the tie rod ends on the front. You would need 2" wheel spacers. That is why there are stock wheels on the front.

what are your plans then for the wheels on this project if i might ask?

Stock wheels and hubcaps. I want to run 34x9.50-15 Super Swamper SS tires if they ever start making them again. Otherwise I may settle for BFG 33x10.50 MT KM2s.

I had to back burner the cruiser for a while. My 3.0 4runner blew a head gasket, so I did a 3.4 swap. I ended up buying 33x10.50 BFG M/T KM2s. I have the look I was going for, so I am happy. I built some patch panels and got the rear sill area welded back up.
