Titled and bought as a 1969. Front turn signals are square like a 69 and later and original I think. Number on Frame and Tag FJ40L 64770

I think I may have found it, does the sor list the last number manufactured in that month? If so it would be a January 1969.

Yea, Jan '69, but anything back to 9/'68 would be a '69 model year.

Is that because of shipping or did they actually do a model year change in September?

I would say it was one of the last 40s made in 1968. Looking at my four post 3/69 FJ40s with the A pillar plate with a production date the number shown by SOR on their chart is the first cruiser made that month not the last. Looking at those dates there would be a thousand cruiser made after 12/68 but before 1/69. What would that production date be??

most years the model year ran sept-aug. 79 was a notable exception, 92 was another where the model ran to dec with the new year came the new model year.

the sept to aug was pretty much across the board with all manufacturers. however nothing is set in stone and the manufacturers can change as they see fit.
