While we wait for the trans from Galen I am starting to do some plotting and measuring.

So with 315/35” tires the axle will sit about 17.5” center off the floor.

I am shooting for a minimum of 4” of up travel and to keep the chassis low.

Yes I need to drop the chassis down 3-4”. That puts the frame at about 28” off the ground at the front frame rails. Not sure yet I can achieve this SoA but it is what I am shooting for.

Cheers

Pretty much decided today I am going to shackle reverse it and sleeve the frame.

That will help a lot to keep it low. Didn’t want to do much modifications to the frame but after a pretty good discussion with the owner this is the route we are going.

Broke down all the OME leaf packs today because we will be using the main leaves from the packs as our base for the custom assembled packs.

Our trans is finally in Boise but we still don’t have it in the shop.

@theside00 was working on this H55/split case combo today though for an FJ62.

I will be doing the same next week so we can finally stuff the FT and trans/tcase in the pickup and get on with the build.

Cheers

Waiting, waiting and waiting. H55 is supposed to be delivered today. Got a few more things in though.

Beefy RuffStuff traction bar, diesel burn outs are going to need this to control pinion deflection.

I think we are going to modify the lift cart to allow us to bolt a trans to it. I bought the cart awhile back for rebuilding t-cases, it goes well with our break down table.

Cheers

Transfer case all broke down, cleaned and inspected.

I am going to bead blast the housing tomorrow, clear coat and start in on assembly.

Cheers

I thought we had a 5th gear oiler,

We didn’t though, so one is on the way.

i have the same cart that I've used for years as a transmission jack, until i actually bought a legit transmission jack last month. Love it. looking forwards to seeing you modify it.

My wagon's frame rails up front at the spring hanger are 27" on 35" rubber... it can be done. Same setup, shackle reversal with sleeved upper bushing. Put the bushing farther back then you think, i ended up needing a 8" shackle to keep the eyelet from hitting the frame before the spring reached max compression and as a result I have some minor compliance side-to-side. Poly bushings helped a lot

We got a trans jack, the cart is for rebuilding/assembly.

While I wait for the 5th gear oiler I went ahead and tapped the hole between 5spd housing and tcase, then installed a plug.

I spent most of the day doing body work on another project but once the goodies showed up I went ahead and sealed the 5th gear housing and the back tcase housing up.

I often work seven days a week (this week six) so either tomorrow or Sunday I will continue on with tcase rebuild.

Cheers

The only good use for a 70-series electric hub spindle. ;)

The tcase has been a bit dramatic all along, simply because we bought it from a junkyard who forgot to send us the idler gears and shaft. We got a replacement but it seems the spacer between the roller bearings never got here. So it’s ordered up and this can’t go much farther without it.
