I had a nice late model rocker assembly that had little wear, but had gotten dry and seized from sitting. I sprayed it with penetrating oil, and together with a gentle flame, was able to free it up and separate.

A lot of cleaning later, also note the new adjuster screws:

I have a very small quantity of discontinued OEM rocker shafts that I found at a vendor. My last order was rejected, so I may have exhausted their stock. This is not good, as the aftermarket have not been available for a while either. Hopefully that is temporary problem.

Make sure to line up the oil passages in the head, rocker support, and rocker shaft:

The trail of pics went cold after that, but the rocker assembly was assembled, installed, valves adjusted, and all hidden under a fresh valve cover…

These are about a 1/2” longer, center to center.

I wonder how much room is left around the crank? A 1/2" shorter pin height with a 1/4" longer stroke and rod would keep the deck height identical and the rod ratio roughly the same. It would also give for 4543cc, with a .5mm over bore.

No such thing as a welded stroker for one of these?

We were guaranteed to get hit with a lot of water sooner rather than later, so we had a limited window to clean & paint the block.

We made it back inside the climate controlled OR in plenty of time to ride out the storm. Before day’s end, we had the block clean enough to eat from, pulled a crank from the quiver, verified and fit-checked all of the components, swapped the crankshaft timing gear and then installed the crank.

For our efforts, we were rewarded with a nice cold dry front after getting hammered all day.

Quickly becoming my favorite under the radar intersection in Memphis

Spent a couple hours organizing and bolting on some goodness. I had to move the engine a bit on the block stand to be able to work the bellhousing on the engine. I like to put it and the clutch fkywheel at least before it goes into the truck so I can monkey with finding TDC and adding the distributor with relative ease.

Once the bellhousing was on I clearanced it for the H55

I ran some parts this am but had real job stuff until about 4:30.

Came back Back out and started putting things in their place. Because we removed the AC all the brackets had to be acquired to go back to the traditional belt setup.

Jim C pump eliminator and bracket. Also @Ratboy at Classic sent me the appropriate belt tension hardware. I forgot to ask for the oddball bolts with the round ends so I made some on the belt tensioner. If anyone knows that PN for Toyota please share

Since the clutch master is already on the driver side I’m going to attempt to add one in the stock location on the motor mount. I cut off the part that goes to the frame before powder and added the proper slave. Not sure how this will work. Once I get the 2F style clutch fork in there I will see.

Little things. Finding the right water fittings for heat and just a plug for the other since TEMP will be fed through the Dakota Sniper interface

Spun the motor a bit to get it to TDC and got a good seat on the DUI distributor.

Got the Dakota oil pressure gauge installed in to the oil fired housing.

Scienced out the clutch slave. Mating 3 speed mount and slave to the 5 speed clutch arm took some figuring

To make the bracket work I drilled a hole in the old motor mount bracket and added a M10 helicoil

Should have good stroke

Get it

This is how I did the slave. This little dog-leg bracket was in my stash. I think it is for an early 60 passenger slave mount. Anyway it worked just right as did the m10 helicoil.

I have been digging for bolts like crazy. I thought I had a good stash but it’s been taxing.

After all that s*** with the slave I forgot the One that was on the truck was sitting in the frame and they have 2x longer rods. Oh well. No biggie.

I think the clutch will feel better with the shorter one
