I was at my local ACE hardware today and they had a mess of "O" rings. Could this be used as gasket material for the lense??

did I hear "plating"?:D

I don't think they would have a large enough O.D., unless the O.D. is 12" or something?

Yea....about that plating....might be a couple parts coming back to you with your part :D Probaby going to be spraying black this weekend :)

Only a couple hours on the lv tonight. Got home and started masking off the edges of the fenders for that SEM sauce.

Matt, it that anything like the stuff on the bottom of the LV? The stuff the factory put on is ON!! I'm getting it off using an OxyAcetylyne torch until it's soft and then scraping it off.

Charles,

It's probably a lot like the stuff on the bottom of an lv. I know exactly what your talking about. Back towards the begining of this thread there are a few pics of mine on the side and me sandblasting it off.

I would have to blast for a bit and then stop and use the hammer and wood chisel to knock more off, then blast again, then chisel, etc.....

Huge pain in the ass getting it off. I have no intention of ever taking this stuff off in my lifetime again ;p

Matt

Send it all along...What ever you got, pack it up...I just bought a couple lots of pats this week and will be glass beading for a week! I will be do a few plating runs the next two weeks.

Speaking of black, I have a few charcoal canisters that are in need of color:D

Do you have any OEM Tools from your 40 or this LV? Send them, you wont believe what they look like with new clear zinc on them (sand blast first)

Matt, does it work over other coatings or do you put it on bare untreated steel? I've been planning to paint the underside with RustBullit but I'd like something over that too. Do you have the actual product number handy? I need to see if it's available here in Guatemala or if I need to bring some back with me this summer. I also want to do a google search on the spec sheets and compatibility issues.

The stuff on my LV did not allow any rust to start from the side that the nasty stuff was on. All rust started on the opposite side and worked through.

Charles,

Probably would work over bare steel, but the mfg. recomends directly over primer. I am spraying it on top of DP50LF.

Hope this helps, Matt

Pretty long night on the lv tonight, just finished up.

Got home around 6 pm and made some stands to hold the fenders real quick, should be a pic of those. I used some wax paper on top of them since the SEM sauce was still a little plyable. Got everything ready to go, including hood hinges, latches, fuel tank cover, side aprons and fenders.

Shot continetal beige first on everything, 2 to 3 coats. Then started back taping for white. Painting is getting to be like welding, getting a little tired of it. Back taping parts takes lots of time and it only takes a few minutes to spray paint, then you get to rip off all that work that took you over an hour to do.

Once both colors were on, shot 2 coats of clear on everything. Everything turned out pretty good, happy with it. Probably let those parts dry all day tomorrow and into Sunday, start hang doors and tailgates tomorrow probably.

Pretty good day on the lv, didn't try to hard today, nice day so I had the doors open all day and the lv out for a while while I worked on it.

Started off the day by gluing some weather stripping I got a few weeks ago from JC whitney to the back tailgate area. Took 2 pieces started in the center and worked to the bottom, glued the 2 ends together at the top and bottom.

After the weather stripping was on I started with the upper tailgate. My buddy Jerry (or as I call him, "Broncoabandoner" ;) ) came over and helped me hold it up while I got all eight bolts in. That went better than I thought, glad he was there to hold it, with the glass it was heavy. After that we bolted up the tailgate, little problem. My auto body buddy and I had the upper and lower tailgate closing well when it was in primer. It was a tight fit between the 2 when we had it in primer, but closed well. Well, now it doesn't close so well. I made as much as adjustment to the top as possible, but just so close but won't fit. So tomorrow I plan on making a little lower hinged ajustment. I plan on milling some of the face of the hinge off, possibly a 1/16" or so of each flat surface of the hinge. That should give me a good 1/8" and then should fit. I will end up blasting and painting the hinges again, but that's ok, as long as it fits.

My buddy Jerry stuck around for a while and helped with the doors, I think you can see him in one of the pics while I was making him do the heavy work :) . Got all 4 doors hung and swinging into the jams nicely. Suprises me how tight that new weatherstipping on the door jams sits against the doors, should be a nice tight fit.

I have some painting I plan on doing tomorrow also, but if the tailgate stuff goes well I plan on trying to get my latches installed on the doors again.
