Solid day wrenching today. Got the front cap off fighting rusty bolts the whole way. Kroil is really great stuff. There a lot of cleaning up to do under this hood, but it will be great when it’s finished.

Also found a little time to help my dad pull out the motor from his 69 Camaro so it can be rebuilt.

Yanked my radiator and it looks to have been leaking for some time now. Trying to decide on repair and keep original or replace with new OEM.

I also found a set 1970 Peterson reflectors on eBay that looked pretty close to run till I find a set of decent OEM ones. $18 bucks it’s worth a shot considering I’m missing them.

Spent the better part of today fighting more rusty bolts. With Kroil and heat I got the radiator support out as well as a few more bolts from battery tray hold down and the frame. Gut punch came when I was pulling lower thermo housing and one of those bolts snapped on my. So if anybody has a sure fire way to remove a stuck bolt from a block let me know.

None the less a good day. When your son asked to help you give him a wrench and tell him to take some clamps. Next up will be a lot of scrubbing and rust converting.

Questions:
1) what am I missing on my drivers side firewall? Empty holes.
2) passenger side fender mechanical relay, is this for the horn?
3) my dust shield that sits under radiator is pretty rough, not sure it’s savable. Are these the same for all F 40s? Does anyone have a decent one they’d sell?

You need to come get this 110 welder of mine.

weld a bolt on it.

I have one here. Feel free to come help on the extraction.

1.) Empty holes are not stock.
2.) Horn relay. Please keep it . It is valuable.
3.) Clean it up. it is fine.

thanks for info. Horn relay isn’t going anywhere just wanted to be sure that’s what is was. The dust cover isn’t bad except both mounting ears are rusted off. It was sitting in place basically.

Those holes are for an old warn winch with cable controls. Trick on the broken bolt is to weld a nut that fits over the threads sticking out( good hot weld) heat around the stud and some penetrant. Then slowly with a wrench go back and forth. Sometime the nut will break off( weld another on a try again. If this fails, grind it smooth and carefully drill it out!

Weld a nut on it is! I have been soaking with Kroil so I hope that will help. Thanks for info.

I have a set of splash pans I will sell. Including the piece you need.

Man that just made my day! thank you.

No problem. Should have been with the truck the whole time. Glad to be part of the reunion/ story. I’ve also thrown in a bag of misc 9mm brake fittings from other rigs too.
