Nothing fun, another weekend of sanding. I bought a cheap metal conditioning tool off amazon and it works well. I bought some D-rings for bed so mocked up to make sure it’s what I want to do. Next I will weld in all vertical support channels.

Great idea on those weld nuts.

Spent all weekend getting the panel high spots taken care of. It sucked to be honest. One high spot was taking a couple hours. Im sure the neighbors loved the sound of a hammer and dolly at 7 in the morning! I got it done though, panels are straight and ready for epoxy primer.

I got most of the drivers side dent out. I probably shrunk it a bit much so needs to come back out a bit. The map gas torch was a bit too much heat for this metal. I used my torch 300 and found it worked well for oil canning by just quenching with water. I got the roof pretty straight but would still oil can with some pressure. I ran some 5/16”round stock inside the ribs and that did the trick. Not sure how Im going to finish those yet. Feel pretty good about where things are at with the roof.

The front channel that goes against the windshield and seal has a large gap. I removed what seemed to be broken concrete. @middlecalf was your similar?

There is a significant gap, and from what I can guess from this design is that any fluids will migrate to the outside edge of the roof/windshield frame so the front seal install needs to make sure it stays to the outside. I think I may have trimmed my seal a smidgeon too short, I get a slight breeze in that corner but I haven’t driven it in any hard rain or snow to fully see how much of a leak there might be. Have no idea why someone thought it necessary to fill that channel with sealant other than maybe a bead of seam sealer. But it is hard to get the seam sealer’s tube in there to make that seal bead, so maybe they thought to just fill the whole gap??

Just to be sure, the picture above is of the red circled area in the direction of the green arrow below?

@miller if you can clarify what that measurement is of I’ll look and measure my 63 when I get home in a couple hours. Is the broken concrete you removed a reference to the weather stripping?

Scratch that…you must have posted seconds before me.

Did you find a piece of weather stripping to replace the piece of shown?

From what I recall that’s what mine looked like. Maybe worse 😂

For weather stripping I have not checked to see if they are available. I will need one!

Your channel looks different than mine. Here’s pic of mine in progress of repairing the ends, you can see the lip on mine pointing forward. Not sure what to make of that.
