Easy now! You'll have to buy me dinner first! They are finished with Chassis Saver Silver and then Monstaliner. The metal is powder coated black.
I've posted this system in 2 places on Mud and also 2 places on Expedition Portal. I've been overwhelmed by the positive response. I've been approached a number of times to build them for people. Unfortunately, a one-off like I did would be cost prohibitive. I have a good job, but I'm entertaining the idea of doing some systems for the 80, 100, 200, FJ, JK, etc. But I'll only do them if I can offer a much better system than what's out there or at least comparable for less money. I'll say this- the cost of AT or Outback drawers seems pretty ridiculous. Until you build them yourself. They cost a lot more than you originally think. More info to come.
I've been teetering on the outbacks and almost pulled the trigger recently, but the price tag was a very hard pill to swallow. I'd welcome any new competition to the drawer market.
For competing with the price of the ARBs, did you find that a lot of the cost was in the drawer slides? I already have slides but fear that sourcing the rest of the hardware will end up tilting the scale toward buying ARBs vs building myself.

Yes. Drawer slides and hardware. You end up either buying hardware you don't use/need or you have to buy 100 of whatever. It adds up. Also, the Chassis Saver and Monstaliner alone ran about $250. But, you can't go 90% of the way and cop out with some crappy carpet, imo.

By far the best rear storage solution I have seen if only I had your fab skills to do something like this. if you were to start selling this solution I would be in line for my 80.

Sometimes I wish I didn't have any fab skills, either. I'd probably have alot more spare time, and money! The rattles- yes, it is my biggest enemy. I despise rattles. My system has zero rattles, zero noise. There is carpet and rubber under the floor of the system. All metal dividers and shelves have quality rubber washers between them. I didn't skimp on the drawer slides and even did a bit of customizing to make sure they are quiet. Both drawers close against heavy rubber pads under compression. The right drawer also has a cam locking handle. The Monstaliner helps to keep packed items quiet. The wings and face are cut to have a gap so nothing touches the interior trim. The wings' hinges close under tension and the wings sit on foam pads. Even the fridge cord has a shock cord attached to keep it out of the way of the drawer and also keeps tension to keep the cord from slapping against anything. In addition to all of this it's built like a tank. It's quiet.
I recently built a metal drawer system similar to the outback drawers with roller bearing slides. My total cost including the fabrication and metal bending was $1k. That doesn't include all of my time I put into the project. If I was to do it again, I would just purchase the outback system...

Just thought I'd post some crappy cell phone pics of the LED lights I added. They were necessary because the shelves block the dome light. They run through the steel tubing when possible and enter and exit through grommets. They are positioned to illuminate the side compartments as well. There is also one in the drawer. The first pic is with them off.

I'm building a simple set of drawers with side wings and trying to guestimate how much monstaliner I should order. I'm thinking 1-2 quarts should do the exterior surfaces and drawer interiors.?
Any ideas for me? How much monstaliner did you use? I should need less than 1/2 of what you did.
Did you consider any other primers (by other I mean cheaper)?
