Anyone have experience with using 12 v heating blankets for overnight camping in the 80 series?

Catie and I are heading out to moab for the weekend and I know its going to be chilly. She is always colder than me so I figured I'd try to pick up a 12v blanket for the nights.

Curious as to peoples experiences, energy consumption ect. Not to worried about killing my battery, its a deep cycle Batteries + x with a second version of it as a back up. Also I have a jump box if all else fails.

Following, Curious as well.

I recently did some solo camping with temps around 15F using the Little Buddy Heater. Left it on low anchored to the top of my Edgestar. Really helped knock the chill off and stay comfortable.

@SmokingRocks you may find the answer to your question more readily available in the camping & outdoor gear or expedition build sections of the forum. Who else would have better advice than those who browse that section? That and its not 80 specific so you will have a broader crowd to answer.

We bought a lil buddy and used it to play beer pong in the garage on a cold night. Took it camping and it crapped out after driving over some bumps in the road. If operating properly, they shouldn't emit any CO, and with the windows cracked, I think O2 would be OK. They also automatically turn off if you (your dog) kicks it over.

Subscribed for 12v blanket action. The wife would really appreciate one.

Why not a normal 110 blanket and an inverter?

I would have guessed the amp draw would be significant at 12 volts but it looks like they have ones that use around 4 amps.

I have used the little buddy too and it's nice. Still, the blanket sounds great. Wonder if anyone has made a blanket that runs on a lithium ion battery, like the Milwaukee heated jacket? Might be nice.

But how many cup holders do you have? :flipoff2:

The little buddy is propane right? I'd be concerned with o2 depletion

The Buddy heaters have oxygen depletion sensors (not that you want to 100% rely on that to keep you alive)

I use the Coleman SportCat, which runs 14 hours on a 1 pound propane cylinder. It requires 6 square inches of ventilation. Down side is it's only 1500 BTU, but it makes a difference.

Seems like they're all about 4-5 amp draw. Some have a 45 minute timer, which would suck. I did notice some have 5' cords and some have 8' cords. I am thinking an 8' cord, without timer would be ideal.

Also, this thread might help: Electric Blanket Camping

No, but between the three there are 473 reviews.

I camp in my 80. If I were buying one, the RoadPro seems to have what I would want:

1. Max temp is 110-115
2. Cord is 8'
3. No timer
4. 4.6 amp draw

There is one on Kickstarter that uses a rechargeable battery:

The Rumpl Puffe-, A Portable Battery-Powered Heated Blanket

Runs for 10 hours on low setting. If you have multiple batteries, you can switch them out to keep it heating. They are working on a 12V adapter to charge it. It will also charge your mobile device while you sleep.
