Agree, I already sent in the request for my @beno box, but was curious how much truth was in this claim.

If it's newer than 04 it won't have a transmission dipstick if I understand correctly. Best I can say is try to catch and measure. It's one of the reasons I wemt looking for an older GX...And this my friends is why Mr. T uses spring clamps and not hose clamps...View attachment 1531281
Also, anyone know how much trans fluid I will loose on this adventure since I will need to top that off when I swap the new rad in. And better yet how to add it? I havent looked underneath yet, but don't see a dip stick under the hood.
TIA

Worm clamps or spring clamps, it doesn't matter when the radiator goes from black to brown it's time to replace it. Once brown the plastic tanks have the consistency of a wet cereal box.
Any reason not to reuse the OEM clamps vs buying new OEM when replacing? Are they known to weaken over time?
Depends on the mileage. I've always been advised (even recently) that, unless the transmission has had regular maintenance, it's better to "leave alone" an automatic transmission with, say, 125k+ miles. The claim is, draining/refilling or worse, flushing, is likely to shorten, rather than lengthen the life of the tranny. Plus (and there are also those who don't go along with this), 2004 and up GXs (the ones without the dipsticks) have Toyota WS fluid, which Toyota claims to be a lifetime fluid.Might be a good time to flush the trans anyway, if you don't know the history. Remove the pan, clean the screen, replace all parts and fill........
Did you have water infiltration or did the shudder just occur on its own? I agree on the fluid replacement with a shudder, as there's really no other option. I had to do a drain/fill because a shudder due to the faulty 1st gen. transmission vent designUnderstand the point of view, but I've experienced the well known shudder in my A750F (same as 03-09 GXs) that was only cured by dropping the fluid (engine off and passive draining is my only recommendation) and then refilling approximately 5.5qts. I did that twice within a two month period using factory WS fluid. Trans had 143K on it. Shudder went away, no other issues.
You know WHO to ask...Just wondering for my own curiosity and to kind of educate the dealer parts guy on it if he was given bad info.
Thanks,
Edit: Lexus Part Number is 16400-50313 Toyota PN 16400-50300
So xxx13 is the difference.
H2O infil possible, as my factory vent extension only went to the the base of the firewall (I've extended it up to the top of engine compartment). But the shudder was thoroughly discussed on other FJC specific forums in the early days (2006). Additionally, one of my coworkers here has a GX that has never been off pavement nor a water crossing - same shudder. I tend to think the "lifetime" claim is a bit generous, especially for those of us (in this hobby/habit) that don't trade in every 75K or 3 years.Did you have water infiltration or did the shudder just occur on its own? They are completely different.
I would let it wander home to your pretty new friend and leave the part numbers at the shop![]()
