Yeah, I wish. @CatskillsRunner lives 2500 miles away in NY.

:(

Mind wandering thru upstate sounds like a nice trip, I hear its nice up there. Just keep the narration "PG", this is a family show after all. ;)

Well new Rad went in last night. Not too bad, just tedious. I guess the GX sat long enough to let the trans fluid drain back into the pan because there wasn't hardly any in the old radiator, but it was not the prettiest, especially compared to the new I had. It didn't look or smell burnt, but it was definitely not new looking. Is there a way to verify proper fluid level in the "sealed" trans? @BMThiker mentioned a fill plug, can the level be checked there?

Also, is there an easy way to gain an inch or so on the front? I'm not hardly ready to replace everything with a complete lift just yet, but would like to level the front up with the rear a little better. A small top hat spacer or similar, or is there not a good way to do it without getting into springs and shocks?

Thanks

The check fill plug is a little bit recessed, whereas the drain plug is not. Both are located on bottom of trans pan. The fill plug is much larger sized bolt head (similar to diff plug) and on the side of the trans, above the pan lip. The check fill plug is basically a tube extending up from the bottom of the pan. When you top off the fluid it will eventually reach the top of that tube and drip out the bottom of pan. There is no way to visually inspect the level.

Yeah and you don't want to do a quick oil change in the dark cause you might pull the drain plug on the tranny. Not sure how I know that but I have new transmission fluid in the wife's rig now! lol Oh, and they don't sell the fluid at Auto Zone FYI...

@BMThiker thank you Rick. I guess I need to drop that other skid plate and do a little investigating.

@Bodean what was the mileage and have you noticed any ill effects since the flush?

Got Erin's wheels back from powder yesterday. The color is called Quaker Bronze and is interesting. Looks straight up brown in direct sun, but is very gunmetal grey inthe shade. She is pleased which I'm glad to hear because I was afraid the brown would be a problem.

Now to get her k02s mounted and throw these puppies on the GX.

To answer your question the 07 FJC was at 180k on the mileage and no I haven't noticed any ill effects. It literally was just a drain and fill. If you do this you'll have to fill the last quart with the engine running. Hot exhaust sux btw...

Laces out baby!!

To be continued...

Welp, definitely not a soccer mom rig anymore. Maybe I can convince Erin we should call her Furiosa :smokin:

Think a lift is going to be in order soon. Running boards have to stay til sliders are on. Momma is only 4'10" and uses them regularly.

Thinking she should be good on clearance except when turning under compression, but we will see.

Term lift is used loosely. Just looking to get up enough to make sure it doesn't contact while turning. Read an inch or so and only as needed.

I'm rebuilding my rear axle this weekend. I was going to wait until after SCC, but not going to chance it. Passenger side is definitely hotter than the driver side after a few miles - not something you can really fix on the side of the road when the bearing finally pukes. Dropped off my spare assemblies with ACC to refit the bearings on the semi-floats. Going to slide them in Saturday. They probably have 100K on them.

I've done this once before. If the bearing fails, it also eats your wheel speed sensor. Pics from the last time.

ACC was too busy to do the bearings, so I dove into the passenger side with some guidance. Pressing off and on that retaining ring is like staring down a grenade from behind the safety of some OSHA approved goggles - Safety 3rd! I'll tackle the driver side after Crawl.

@Bodean was right that effun' exhaust sucks... PSA if you have a sealed transmission, wear long sleeves while checking the fluid level. The trans temp was 122, the exhaust temp was significantly higher... Pretty sure I have a borderline 2nd degree burn on my forearm this morning.

Drove it to work yesterday and it just felt off (recognize it could be the new heavier tires), and ever since I did the radiator I have been wondering what the fluid level was. Well I did a pan drain and refill, 3100 mL came out, about 3500 - 3600 mL went back in, so about a half a quart low. I picked up a Scanguage so I didnt have to do that crazy pin jump temp check process.

Anyway, just need to give everything else a general once over and then load up to head out tomorrow for SCC.

So we are having a debate on the air system on the rear of the GX. True or false, the bags are tied together, so if there is a leak in one, the whole rear will settle?

Erin says she has a drivers lean and thinks the bag on that side is leaking, but I was under the impression they were tied, so if she has a leak, the whole rear should be on the bumps. Thoughts?

GX is about to get a runningboard-ectomy...

Well I gained about 2.5 volts in about 2.5 hours. Not the worst job I've tackled, just a little tight in a few spots. And why the F they couldn't have moved the power steering pump up an inch or the alternator down an inch is asinine.

Denso reman, luckily I had it on the shelf waiting for just such a day.

Pretty close match to the wheels. We will see how they look mounted.

Well if you are going to pull your running boards and you dont want to pay $100 to buy all new clips for the body trim you are going to need a special service tool...

One of these specifically,

Custom machined :D

A little painters tape to keep them from digging into the plaatic too bad.

And viola!

These little buggers sound like they are breaking every time they come out, but I got 17 out of the 20 out clean. 1 I broke with a screw driver before I got my SST, and the other 2 were the ones up close to the front wheel and I couldnt get the pliers on.

I'm pleased with how well they worked. Definitely worth the $12 and 30 or so minutes of grinding.

And the fancy removal tool paved the way for this

Which was followed closely by these

I got the driver's side wrapped up after some swearing. Too many lines running up that side and the gas tank is a bit of a chore to work around. I got the drivers side running board cut down and got the body trim back on.

I need to trim the front of the body trim a little more, but that won't be too bad.

Still need to cut down the PS body trim and get it back on, but overall not a bad Saturday. Momma's happy and that's all that matters.
