@dnp, maybe I just got a really good deal on my first 100, but I was thinking the opposite. I know you are the 100 guru on specs and pricing, so I'm not quarreling - just noting. In 2005, I bought a 99 with diff lock, etc.. which had 89,000 miles on it for $12,000. It was a 6 year old car at the time. Trucks of that same vintage (98-01) with low miles (below 150) are now consistently billed at 16-17K on CL (yes, I have been looking - a lot). I'm not an economist, but recognize that 12K in 2005 is probably equivalent to 15K in U.S. dollars 10 years later (even with our president and weak economy). I have noticed you can get one with high miles 200+ for 6-9K which is cheap and probably a good deal considering how long they run.

I've never been a big fan of the "body" no the 200s, but it's hard to argue with 390 HP, 8500# of towing capacity and mpg in the high teens. plus huge fuel tank (and auxillary), plus all the dynamic suspension stuff. Just like the buggy trend, I think it may be a matter of time before we all start gravitating to the 200s when they start to get cheaper. Sorry to say that out loud in the 100 thread (for now, no dispute that 100 is the best off road value that money can buy). ..... Back to my corner.

I have similar thoughts to the above.

In 2011 i bought a stock 1999 100 with 90k miles, great shape. I paid $11k. Today, based on all the looking (daily) that i do, that's a $14k truck.

My buddy is seriously looking and i can't believe some of the prices out there. 2002s with 165k on the ODO and they want $18k . Or I saw one on classifieds here this morning...1999 with 65k and they want $23,000. Crazy talk IMO.

They are great vehicles. Should of never got rid of mine. STOOPID!
I paid 19k for my 98 with 80k miles in 2003 from a guy with a super bowl ring from super bowl III. It had no service records. I didn't know to check that before hand.

Even with your "low mileage" restriction (~10,000 miles/year), here's what I found:

Granted, these haven't been vetted, but these are just from ONE source after a 5 minute search (and there's even a BLUE one in the bunch!)

And, yes, it sounds like you got a good deal on a 6 y.o. 100 with less than 100k miles........

Bottom line is: 100s are getting affordable for driving AND modding.....And if you're willing to search for those with "normal" miles (~15,000 miles/year), they're actually getting cheap!

@dnp ! I was about to concede that I had been researched right off the forum, but all those are rust belt trucks. Southern/Western 100 prices are higher in my recent experience. More in line with the 1999 for $14.9k that was posted here a day or so ago.

I'm not sure where everyone is looking, but it sounds like I might need to go into the inexpensive 100 supply business!

Example: Just this past weekend, a friend of mine and I went to Mobile to buy one for him. It was a 13,500 mile per year Champagne Pearl/Tan interior 2000 (keep in mind, that's an ATRAC truck), ONE owner with a filthy interior and brand new 275/70s for $6,750.........

If any of y'all have friends looking for rust-free 98-01 100's with "reasonable" mileage in the $13,000+ range, please have them contact me. It may not be immediate, but I'll fix them up......

OK, maybe that's the kicker. Buddy is looking for something under 150k, and pretty set on it.

Don't mean any disrespect at all @dnp! Enjoy the back and forth.
Oh no, @ntsaint. None taken. I just wanted to produce some empirical evidence, rather than anecdotal, of their availability. The rare blue, locked 100 I bought last month was even in this same price range.

I may be cocky, but I'm fairly certain I have the least amount of money tied up in a clean 100 series. Thank you Mr T for using cheap plastic heater hose connectors.
I have to agree. Lots of sweat equity, but shockingly-little cash outlay.

My buddy is working with a $12-15k budget, would like to stay under 150-160k miles. Only colors he won't go for is white or gold.

You see something like that please let me know. He and i have been looking for 6-8 months or so, not much luck. He started looking very seriously after our Arkansas overlanding truck camping run.

It's a lot of vehicle for 2nd gen honda prelude money.

What year does he want, and how far is he willing to travel (ship)?

I would say he's not really leery of any year. Maybe 2000, but only because of the mudscare transmission statistics.

Travel will be the other issue. He's not a guy that can slip by with lots of missed work truck hunting. I'd say it has to be weekend-drive close.

And nothing with any history of rust belt ownership.

I have a really clean, zero rust, 184,000 mile locked '99 in a rare color combo......:hmm:

On water temps and how the gauge displays.

Both of the below show what the actual temp was VS the stock gauge readout. Not much change in position for a substantial change in WT.

On that note, watched mine close the entire trip. Cruising speed it was 188-195. OffRoad non-stress was 195ish as well. Engine under load, obstacles, long idle, saw temps get to 215.

Since I've got the "dumb" 60 gauge that doesn't know to stay in the middle, it freaks you out when it hits 215. It's pretty much starting to cross into the red.

Is that a typical voltage for you, too?
