side pics...

Thanks! Doesn't compare to your work, but its fun :D Here are some pics with the tailgate and headache rack mounted. Making some good progress...Still need a few bits (which I hope to get from you!) and to figure out what I am going to do for the rear taillights....

More pics!!!! Looks great - need a nice side shot :bounce:

I think it looks great. That style of bed look nice on a four door.

That looks really nice indeed! In fact, the bed makes the wheel cutout on the back of the cab look lame. It would be really cool if you could get the cutout on the back of the cab to "match" the curve of the opening on the bed.

Very, very cool.

LOL - I was thinking the same thing but was trying to stay positive. The bed does look great but I would take a look at the structure of the cab in the rear well area to see if a little fab would give a rounded look rather than the straight cut. We know now that you have the skills. Cut off disc, hammer scrap steel, welding, grinding, welding, grinding and bondo - not saying you should do it, just saying I would. The bed looks great :D.

I have the other side of the wheel wells and was planning on doing the other side. I was also considering a side step/slider and exo cage that double as a canopy frame for the rear, so I may not redo the wheel arch b/c you wouldn't see it... :hhmm:

Are you considering cutting the front of the arch and welding in the arches from the bed? Including the little flares for the wheels? That's an AMAZING idea. I was thinking more of just cutting the cab to match, but that's a really, really good idea to look into.

But the cage hiding it would be a good reason not to worry about it too. Obviously Arkana built a great cab, and cutting/modifying it might introduce some weird problems, so just "hiding" it all with an exo-cage makes a lot of sense.

Way too cool.

OEM rear doors

OK. This is officially a two cruiser build thread :hillbilly:

Been working on the rear doors for my Aussie Bandeirante (-inspired) HJ45.

Found some complete doors from the same year (1979). Sectioned them in such a way as to retain the stock window regulator mounting and function. Mounted the doors using OEM door hinges, body side and door side.

Still lots to do, but it's turning out sick :) I'm super stoked

That's awesome!

Are you going to make the front window channel vertical, or leave it at that angle? Seems like it could be made vertical (and you'd get a square window--a HUGE square window) if you wanted.

Amazing how that little change really makes the truck look more "cruiserish."

And what's this about two cruisers in the same thread? I'm just seeing one awesome Arkana 45, getting more and more awesome.

THis is going to be one badass Arkana - it will look great next to your HJ47 troopy. I like the two rig build thread idea. Don't worry, Dan will catch up shortly:grinpimp:

I can't wait to see your engine swap. I may buy a 1HZ out of a wrecked HJ80 shortly to stick in my FJ40, so I'll be glued to that section.

Josh

My wife keeps bugging me about the number of seatbelts in my 45 LPB being only half the number of potential riders. You are making it hard not to cut the back off my cab :censor::bang::doh:

I thought about that and may if I can find someone with some rusty ass doors and will cut out and sell the window frame section, only. I don't want to buy another pair, and, to me, I would like to use two right-angle corners from OEM doors to make a square window - I don't want to cut the current slanted section and make it straight. I would rather cut that side of the window frame out and replace with the right angled section from another door.

Dude, you're in the land of landcruisers. Do it while you're there. And while at it, why not go 1HD-T? I am liking the Arkandierante so much, I may drop the 1HZ into it, instead of the troopy. I'm torn b/c the H and trans that are in the Arkandi are low KM (less than 200K) and run perfect. The HJ47's odometer is stuck at 497K  , and who knows for how many years it's been stuck - its 2H and trans still run perfect, strong, and leak nothing. :hhmm:

I say go for it. Plus, you'll be able to take fido.

not very exciting but very challenging

Took me a minute to figure out the rear door window regulators, but I got it.

My windows will roll down most of the way, approx. 80%. ;)

I'd love to go 1 HDt, but they want STUPID money for them here. There is a beautiful one at the wrecker who have the 1HZ I might get. It only has 12,000 kms on it, but they want au$18,000 for it:crybaby:

I'm torn between doing an engine like that here or just waiting until I ship the rig home and sticking a Cummins into it. If money were no object, I would get a D4-D out of a newer Hilux and make a bell housing to mate it to my H55. THAT would be one helluva rig. I can't find anyone who can make a bell housing for me though.

I vote for sticking the new engine into whichever one you will use most often.

Oh, I'm caught up now. The FIRST truck was the one I subscribed to the thread for....

The Arkana with those doors and a 1HZ would be the cat's meow. That's for sure... Plus then you'd be able to take the wife and another couple out to dinner in STYLE!

FWIW--We might have a door that we could part with--that has dented lower areas, but good window channels....

Dan

Cool, I'll send you a PM. I'd like to do square window frames.

Today, I fab'ed and installed the OEM door striker mounts on both sides. And, finished the other window regulator.

My plan is spray the interior tub with black Upol raptor bedliner over the POR-15. And for color for the truck, I am leaning towards sea foam green (like the bed). I really like that color.

update: more rear door work

I squared off the rear door window frames by using corner sections from 2 other doors (thanks to the MUD members willing to help).

Also, I started closing in the gaps created by the different door shapes, and filling the mounting holes used by the old door hinges.

Before and After pics.....

Are you going to add factory door pillar sheet metal to the top to fill that gap around the door, or will you fab something? I am very impressed with that door; it looks great. I agree with you about sea foam green - that would look great.

Exactly what he just said.

That looks simply beautiful! Filling those little gaps with some of the factory door pillar metal would be the icing on the cake (and possibly be easier than adding to the doors).

It's looking more and more like Toyota should have built it that way originally. I want one now.

Dan

Thanks! The plan is to add metal to the cab like I did at the bottom of door. Huh, I hadn't considered seeing if I can find someone willing to cut up a hardtop for the factory pillar sections....:hhmm: That's a good idea. I'll need LH and RH sections from 2 hardtops.
