Now that the frame is done, what should I move on to??

Note that I just completed a mini disc conversion, so the front axle is mostly done

First step will be axles and suspension in order to clear up some space in the garage, but should I.....
1. install axles and suspension (freshly painted), then install bearings and seals (axles/diff)
2. install new bearings and seals on both axles, then install

After that is done, I plan on
-freshening up the transfer case
-installing fuel and brake lines on the frame
-clean and install 3f, tranny, tcase, and parking brake
-move on to the body

Sound like a decent plan?

sounds good to me! that's looking dang good!

i never even noticed that notch in the crossmember where the body mounts go.. now i have to go look..

I found a company that does cad plating here in fort worth, Billmark Co. I would like to get a list of parts that I should bring to get plated. Heres what I am coming up with:

-any bolts that werent broken
-headlight cups or whatever you call them
-brake and fuel line brackets/clamps
-hose clamps
-engine lifting hooks
-gas pedal assy
-tail light housings
-rear side marker housings.
-coil braket
-anything else that looks like it was plated
-whatever you guys come up with....????????????????

Were the hard heater lines plated?

I've been really busy with work and getting married, so the cruiser sat for a while. Since my last update, I have taken the rear axle apart and am waiting on new bearings and seals from cruiser outfitters. While waiting, I sandblasted one of the seat bottom frames and installed my ccot cover with the cheaper (HUGE) SOR foam. It went together rather easy....I was dreading this task after reading about the trouble others have had with this cover/foam combo.

I think the later seat frames are different, but on my 75, the bottom where the cover wraps around to get hog ringed is kind of sharp. I was worried this might eventually wear through the cover, so I covered the sharp edge with a piece of spare vinyl. I will take a photo when I do the other seat. Here is the finished product.

Still working on the seats. I am continually building a bin of parts to get cad plated. While working on the seats, I noticed two parts that were originally plated, but are difficult to get off. The part that releases the seat to be folded forward and the pins/springs that release to let the driver seat slide forward and back. I have these outilined in red and have an arrow pointing to the pin that holds the lever on. The pin is either pressed or welded on. The two spring loaded pins seem to just have a pin pressed in. Has anyone taken these apart? If so, how did you do it and how did you get them back on?

Thanks for any input. Here are the pics:

Not sure if these plating questions will get answered here, but in addition to the above question, does anyone know if you can get parts that have rubber or plastic on them cad plated? I know the plating wont adhere to the plastic, but will the process ruin the plastic?

Decided to just get the whole part plated. It wont cost any extra and I can just paint over the parts that need to be black.

Anyway, I have moved back to the rear axle since getting a diff rebuild kit from Cruiser Outfitters. Blasted the housing, drum backing plates, diff carrier and cover. Painted with eastwood extreme chassis black primer, top coat to follow.

Nice!

Looking good! I need to cruise over there and check things out/lend a hand once i get my '69 back from Nykaza's and get it registered, etc.

Thanks for the compliments. I could definitely use some help when the heavy lifting starts. Let me know when you get your cruiser back. I'd love to check it out.

got the rear axle housing blasted and primed. There was a few spots where someone must have welded something to it. I grinded and welded in a few low spots. No more evidence of PO foolery. I've got new bearings and seals and a fresh third to drop in now. Should have the axles back on the frame pretty soon.

Going to the plater today. Ive got a bin full of parts and bolts. I asked about cleaning them and they said they would do it. Im sure it'll cost, but cleaning all of these small parts would be a chore. I also ordered a bolt kit from JIShardware.com. I got the flanged bolts in yellow zinc and will get them plated in CAD with the rest of my parts. I'll update with pics and cost when I get everything back. Heres a quick snap of the axle housing in primer.

Plater estimated all of my parts would be about $150. This included soda blasting and/or cleaning of everything. A lot of the parts had paint on them and most of the bolts were pretty dirty. I thought this was a pretty fair price considering I didnt have to clean them beforehand. Unfortunately, he said it'll be a couple weeks. I'll find something to work on. Plenty of parts to blast still.

Love the Cruiser. It looks good.

Ive almost got it to the rolling chassis stage. I just need to finish blasting and painting the front axle. Rear axle is bolted up, 3f is painted and dropped on the frame. I ordered new mounting bolts for the engine/trans from toyota. They should be in later this week. I need to get some pics up to show off all of my CAD plated parts. I'll try to do that soon.

In the meantime, does anyone know where I can get some of the underhood decals? Like the one that goes on the brake booster, coil, etc. I know aatlas1x used to sell kits, but I dont see them on ebay anymore.

Here are a couple update photos as promised. Almost a rolling chassis. Just need to clean up the rear axle shafts and slide them in. All new bearings and seals throughout the rear axle/diff.

Also, i stripped the body of all fasteners before taking it to get blasted. While doing this i noticed these strips behind the front doors/b-pillars that I havent seen mentioned before and cant find any diagrams that show them. They are right behind the area that the hard top posts slide into. Anyone know what purpose these serve? They seem to be spot welded on and each had 4 bolts holding them on.

Any thoughts on these metal strips in the above post?

Also, I'll be heading to the paint store before I pick up the tub. I could use some recomendations on primer/sealer. I would like to do the upol on the underside and maybe some of the interior, so whatever I use needs to be compatible. Leaning toward a good epoxy primer. Any thoughts/recommendations?
