hi everyone, are there any tips and tricks to removing the plastic cladding off the truck? getting ready for paint and thought i'd remove the stuff myself. thanks

I just replaced the transfer case shift lever seat in my '93 4WD 4-Runner with the manual transmission. I'm having a lot of trouble holding down the metal cover against the force of the spring so I can install the retainer clip. Are there any tips and/or special tools that will make this easier?
