Wife and baby went to sleep early last night, so I got to sneak in a little time to put my lights on the light bar I fabed up. It's a little crude, but it works, and was done with tools I already have. Nice wifey bought me a set for christmas, and since I don't have a bumper to put them on yet, I made this bar. Hopefully I'll get some time this week to put it on the truck and wire them up.

doesn't look 'white trash' to me Heath.

nicely done.

course you got to consider the source.:hillbilly:

quick-n-easy rack brackets rock

Nice work, it looks good. Did you paint the frame to match the color of your rig? Post up some pics once it's finally mounted.

Ya', First I hit it with some duplicolor spray bedliner. It's not as tough as real stuff, but it does give a nice texture, and it fills in scratches from grinding - mostly. Then I covered that with Champane Beige Metallic, or something like that, it's the color of the flares and roof rack on the LX. I'm thinking that might be a better color for my rims than the white trash gold.

Nice looking stuff there.

Thanks guys.

BTW in case anyone is currious, I have no tubing bender of any kind. I used a trick I saw on X-Treme 4x4. Guess it's worth something other than shots of Jessy's plumbers crack. Cut a bunch of slots, then bend the tube. Worked out pretty good on the square tube even though I wasn't real acurate with my cuts, the round tube I actually spaced them 1/4" each for a little more acuracy. Took me a minute to figure out that welding down the slots wasn't going to work (burn through), but going perpendicular to them worked pretty good. Made a real acurate test fixture to make sure the bends were equal too.

Oh, and I think it'll look much more white trash when I stand up through the sunroof with my red flannel shirt with sleaves cut off, my Winchester turdy turdy aimed squarely at a ground hog.

Booger welds! :D :flipoff2:

As long as you like it, its cool

That's why god invented the flapper disk :flipoff2:

I use mig, but I am a stick welder - as in I can get two pieces to stick together, and that's about it.

No worries, I'm giving you s*** and I've never even tried welding... actually thats a lie, I started to lay down a bead and was wearing sandals... the burns I got on my feet pretty much ended that foray for the weekend.... haven't had a chance to try since ;)

This reminds me of the RED Cruiser in the latest edition of 4x4 Toyota Owner Mag. I believe it won or placed in a Sahara race? Haven't read the article yet. But his light bar actually bends forward more out over the windshield and doesn't black the sun roof. I was thinking of having a buddy of mine help me build one. I cut he welds!!!!! If I remember I will scan in the photo tonight.

Good job. It is good for you to show your handy work. Anyone with money can buy their rig but then they are like so many here. Sure the welds may not be perfect but your not a welder. I weld everyday and am not perfect. So many "build' their trucks when in all reality they click over to Slee and others. Long live the flap disc.

That's a great idea. I saw the same show and thought it was a great idea of a way to do a radius without a bender. I don't know what size wire you were using but if you use a .023 or .025 and turn the power to 1 and the wire feed to 10 and go slower than you think you should and listen for the sizzle of baccon on the grill then you could do the paralell weldsin the seams. I did this on some 18ga sheet stock on edge and it worked slick. I layed down some really good beads. Nice job on the rack!

There is a local guy who has built street rod frames using this method. I haven't tried it yet but that is what I plan on using for making the A frame on my trailer frame.

What he didn't say about the other set of lights is that he's packed them around in boxes for 17 years mounting them on various VW and Toyota projects.

I'm really surprised there were no linear actuators used in this project to allow the lights to be angled.

Nothing is more redneck than his gas powered 3 wheel chair. Now he should post up some pictures of that in chit chat. The Suicide Machine.

I want to see it mounted too! When the wife and kid are sleeping is when you are supposed to get all your work done.

They've actually been temporarily mounted on one running and driving vehicle, for at least 3-4 months (the last 40). The one mistake I made was I used those to size everything, and left the nice new ones in the house so I wouldn't damage them, and didn't realize they are an inch larger! So the tops of the middle ones just low enough that the bar shouldn't screw up the light beam. If it does, I'll just cut out that part of the bar, and make a raised bar for that section. Just what I needed, was to redo it again.

Kyle still has scars from ridding that thing. Do you remember who the first test pilot was?

ya', but then you have to mess with the photos taken in the dark and you end up with this:
