Oh this is 100% a result of the torque wrench going righty loosey the last time I did a full knuckle service. This time I'll be using a 1/4" drive instead
Went back out to the garage today to see if I could back the bearing off enough to remedy the friction issue.
I gave the puller one turn too many and broke the end of the snout off.
RIP compressor, off to a shop the LX will go.
Made progress on fixing the AC. Everything is back together, air is blowing ice cold, but the compressor is getting dummy hot and made some terrible, high-pitched squealing noises after idling a bit.
Checked the gap, pictured is .019"
Literally freezing at full blast:
Hot enough to burn...
This was one of the threads I was referencing during this process, the AC clutch I put in had a brand new bearing in it though. I'm wondering if I possibly tapped it on too hard?
I let the clutch cool down then ran the engine again.
Clutch temperature before:
AC vent prior to starting:
AC after running for 30 seconds:
AC clutch after it started to make horrible squealing noises and I shut it off:
I'm now hating the idea that it's the compressor locking up...
Bumping an old thread
After a few years of inoperative AC, I went ahead and replaced the AC clutch and tensioner bearing.
I checked the air gap and it's in the .014" to .026" range, pictured is a .019"
I fired it up for the first time and ran it for a mintue. Ice cold AC right away. No...
There weren't any shims that I could find during disassembly but I have ordered a set.
For my own sanity, do they go on before the stator? Or do they go on after the pressure plate is installed? I've been reading through threads and the FSM
I'm also questioning if I tapped the rotor back on a...
Charcoal canister tried to quit on me while out on a weekend trip. Had the excessive hissing after removing the gas cap.
I gave it a few love taps with the 4 pound sledge and it seems to have fixed it, until I get home.
I immensely appreciate all of the info on this forum which helped me...
