Just ran into a new issue on my new-to-me FJ40. The PO fitted after market aluminum wheels. The hup centers are too small to fit over the front hub, so it appears that he had the front wheels turned on a lathe to enlarge the center opening to fit over the Warn lockers. However, he did not...
I believe it is an OEM sender. Because the gauge is just an ohm meter and the sender is a potentiometer, the gauge really doesn't care much about the brand of sender. It just needs to be calibrated to the sender.
You can set the conversion factor on a customized basis by calibrating your fuel gauge to the sender. I pulled my sender from the tank. The gauge calibration process calibrates at empty, 1/3, 2/3 and full. So I eyeballed where the float should be for each of those as the calibration program...
Thanks for the reality check. I'm less concerned about cost of the gas than the back country range. I'm adding fuel capacity, but still 10 MPG limits off grid ambition.
My FJ40 (1976 2F, 4M) is new to me, so I'm just getting to know it. My gas mileage is dismal, a little less than 10 mpg. I have to climb 800 to 1000' every time a drive home, but still this mileage seems very low. What sort of mileage do you get?
The bolt pattern on the Rotopax does not fit a 6-lug spare tire mount. It looks like maybe you put just one lug through plate and are holding it on with the wheel. Am I viewing that correctly?
I need extra fuel capacity for back road travel. I'm interested in seeing successful mounting options. I'd like to minimize how much I have to drill into the tub or rear door (1976). Please toss back pictures of installs that make you proud.
So the City Racer cushion is fantastic! Thanks for that tip. I think the design with multiple ridges is probably better than OEM. For a little added insurance against Portland leaks, I added a strip of two-side gasket tape to the leading edge. That's probably unnecessary, but it will...
