Yes, there are adapters to mate the ZF 8HP to a 1HDT and also to mate the other end to a H2FA.

Not a dumb question. Yes the ZF 8HP has a mode where you pull shifter to the left and it goes into sport/manual mode. Or you can leave it alone and just drive it like a regular automatic.

I've seen motor mounts to mount an M57 into an 80 series, a trans to transfer case adapter to mount the ZF-6HP to the 80 series transfer case keeping all the drive shafts the stock length. I'd definitely do a stage 2 tune.

The M57 is available out of all X5 35D's in the U.S./Canada model years 2009 - 2013. These really fly under the radar and not many people know how many are out there.

I ended up removing mine after the hardline split. I kept the heater from under the seat. One day I might reinstall it with new lines, but for now the front heater works well.....the kids don't complain THAT much.
