I'm about to jump into this mod. New 80 series steering gear boxes are $400. Not sure why everyone hasn't done this. Anybody that has gone this route, what other items am I not thinking about that I will need? Can I reuse the pitman arm from my 60 box? Do i need a new steering coupler/yoke...
Well, in typical Fitzwho luck, every time I find a deal like this something happens to mess it up. Had an emergency with my 18 month old American Water Spaniel and blew more money than I care to recall keeping him alive.

I’m using the Ironman 4x4 DC/DC charger. Easy to wire up. Seems to work really well.
I tried one of those cheaper isolators originally and as soon as I hooked everything up, my power steering fluid started boiling… Still don’t understand that.
Drove my Cruiser 1400 miles roundtrip for a Colorado mule deer hunt. Had a few electrical issues, like having to replace a starter solenoid and having a battery hold down come loose and ground out against the positive and nearly start a fire, everything went pretty good.

Installed City Racer window welts and Wagon Gear window locks. Haven’t tackled the windshield yet. The cargo windows weren’t all that bad. The hatch was hell. Wore a blister almost the entire length of my index finger.

Interior is pretty much done. Probably should have just bit the bullet and bought the Moab TrailCat seats that I wanted. But these are very comfortable. Had to fab up an entirely new base mount for the driver seat to drop it about 1-1.5” to leave me with some head room. Got the new front seat...
Been watching and relating to a lot of the Project Wrong Way videos. Funny seeing somebody have the same struggles. Mainly the dropping stuff over and over or not being able to get something to fit. Made my wife watch one and basically she was like, “this dude is you working on your FJ60.”
To add... I found the back relatively easy to install for the most part. My seat has a solid back, so to simplify the install I cut 4 access holes in the rear of the seat so that I could reach the mid-seat section with the hog ring pliers, there was no good way that I could determine to do it...
