Turns out you only need tach and batt to run these (like the manufacturer suggests).
Nothing wrong with the stock part. Ill be running the DUI in tandem with a header/ sniper. I have one on my 85 with a weber/ header/ cam. The throttle response is night and day to my stock 83.
I have searched/ read a good deal of threads on this subject and I keep asking myself the same question.
Are these threads convoluted, or are the manufacturers instructions incomplete?
DUI distributor (semi vague install instruction) specifies needs 12V constant, and tach hookup (2 prongs on...
Half way though this thread. Stoked to see some good sniper info. I have a kit on order rn from Moseley.
You mention having your suspension set up soft a few times. I wondered if you have a specific recipe? I have some dobinsons on order and they only had 7 leaf in stock. A Dobinson rep told me...
Does anyone know of a Desmog kit that’s available for purchase (right now) ? Man-a-desmog is back ordered. I would ideally not pull the pulley off my other truck to survey/ replicate. TIA
Thanks. I ended up ordering the standard twin tube setup. I spoke to a few people who had experience with both set ups. The consensus was I would not notice a difference in ride quality. Only the IMS would perform better over longer periods of hard use on trails.
I could do a review after a...
Donor truck looks nice. I did the same. Removed a full donor roof. Pretty sure I’m going to use it for patching in extruded sections opposed to a full swap. How bad is your roof now?

Bump. Any more info out there on the IMS set up? Is it worth the extra $500? Like OP said, pros and cons, or any personal experience would be really appreciated. I run OME 2" medium on my 85, and its a bit harsh (we live in Philly - ALL the streets are trash). Looking for a set up on my partners...
thanks for all the good info.
I ended up ordering an ignition from vintage teq based on time constraints. will report back post install, to round out info for potential future searches.
Makes sense that part is nla with your explanation. Pretty extraneous feature for a
non-purist.
I’m glad to hear the part I need is readily available. Thanks for the breakdown.
The truck is an 85. Seems easy to find for every other year/ series

Thanks for the suggestion. The truck has a man a fre “lightning strike” HEI.
The issue I’m having is when cranking all I get are dash lights, and a click if any noise at all.
Battery and starter are known/ tested good. Lead terminals are clean, and wire brushed. Grounds look clean.
