Hey guys,

Trying to get some feedback on the whole roof swap process. I understand not too many auto body shops are willing to tackle the job. What’s a ball park number I can expect to pay? If you know of any shop recommendations in Texas please let me know. I currently have the donor roof at my family’s place in south Texas already.

It's too complicated for a regular body shop. You need to find a hot rod shop, someone who knows
how to chop any roof. I hope your donor roof has left the pillars long enough. They need to be long enough
to come down a few inches as the cuts have to be horizontal level.

Hope these are long enough

A shop advised me that you should make metal inserts that will go into the both sections of the cut roof pillars to stiffen up the area and weld them in place.

It’s too bad the roof donor cut that chrome lock strip on the windshield. It’s obsolete and
a really desirable pieces for restoration people. I’d recommend anyone doing window work to
keep those bits of chrome and plastic lock strip if they are in good shape. They are desirable.

Donor truck looks nice. I did the same. Removed a full donor roof. Pretty sure I’m going to use it for patching in extruded sections opposed to a full swap. How bad is your roof now?

Can’t clearly see because of the Por 15 on it. It’s pretty bad. 🥴

Rust all along the interior side of the roof as well, where previous welding work was done.

Bizarre this post would come up this week, because this topic came up in conversation when we picked up our truck from Torfab last Friday. I asked Nick at Torfab what a complete resto paint job would be, just ballpark (mostly to finish talking myself into doing it myself), and we got to talking about a shop here locally which does all their paint work. He said it was the only shop he knew of which did a full roof replacement for another client recently. I can pass along that shop name if you'd like, just to call them and talk specifics about what you have and what you're trying to do. Too far away to have them do it for you of course, but maybe they know someone in your area. At least get some ideas from them about what to look for and questions to ask. Let me know if you'd like that contact info.........

Definitely! I’d really appreciate that. I can use all the info considering I’m not too familiar with the job, other than what I’ve read.

I'll get the contact info tomorrow. It's a shop in Everett, WA, but I wasn't sure on the specific shop name. I'll confirm all that and let you know.

Ok, the shop doing roof swaps here in Western WA is:
Hanson Auto Rebuild
2006 Broadway, Everett, WA
425-374-0604
I've never worked with them myself, but they come highly recommended. Hope they can give you some guidance and help your roof project succeed.

I bought an OEM windshield gasket and the chrome lock strip pieces from Toyota a few month ago. I think it’s still available.
