O-k!

I wanted to start a thread that would serve to put as much information about Pig paint options as possible in one thread...

Normally, I would put paint as last on the list of things to do (Pig needs plenty of other work), but the :princess: indicated she would really like to have the Pig out of primer if we are to have 2 Cruisers in the driveway.

Some things that would be relevant to this thread:

1) Were all Pigs sold in US 2-tone in color? If so, were the roofs the same color as the the lower color, or were the roofs sometimes white?

2) What colors were available in what years?

3) When did Toyota start listing the paint codes on the VIN plate under the hood? I saw Ben's former Pig had a code listed. I forgot to check mine, which I believe is a '74. Ben's was a '76. I would love to have a table that corresponds the paint codes to actual colors...

4) Big important one - how do we translate the original Toyota color codes into codes that we can buy today?

Let the fun begin!!!

(We REALLY need a Pig emoticon!!!)

Kinda the long way to make an emoticon (basically a url link to an img)

any decent paint shop can change the oem paint code over. if they can't try dupont's website or one of the major paint websites. afaik, all us piggies were two toned and the roof alway mated the lower door.

**The colors were usually red/white, green/white, blue/white, orange/white. There are rumors of solid red FJ55's but I have never seen on with factory paint

2) What colors were available in what years?

** I can't help here sorry, my pig is a '71

**All of the paint shops I have talked to had no problem with the early Toyota paint codes.

Ryan.

Ryan - your '71 does not have color code stamped on VIN plate?

Can anyone tell me when that started?

I was wanting to cross Toyota color codes with current paint codes just to look at a few colors before making a decision... The Cruiser :princess: has indicated an interest in 2 tone Biege/White (and since Pig is the 2nd Cruiser and more of a "want" vs. a "need", I feel like it would be worth checking out her preferences)

From the Birfield chart, it looks like they used:

Olympus White, and then went to Cygnus White for the whites.

For colors, you could have:
- Appenino Brown
- Royal Blue
- Muleta Red
- Silver Gray
- Fashion Green
- Health Grey
- Freeborn Red
- Pueblo Brown
- Nebula Green
- Royal Blue

I think there may be some gaps in that table, but it is a good start...

Gaps I see are not all years are covered, and where are Sea Foam and Sage Green?

I have a stock solid red fj55.....I know it is in fact original. There is not a single piece of white on it. Yes, it has been painted before, but there are places that would be white if it was ever two tone....

I need some piggy color help. I picked up a Japan printed color book and it says Colorado Beige T451 aka Coronado Beige T451 is "Available on Station Wagon Only".

Is this a 55 color or a 45 waggy color. I am confused because my oldest color book is 67 and that was the crossover year between 45s and 55 wagons.

Also what about Lilly White T 403? Was that ever offered as the white for the FJ55?

i've only got a book on 74, they dont' show a lilly white.

options on the 55s are heath gray (113), freeborn red (309), pueblo brown (415), nebula green (622), and royal blue (822), all with a dark gray interior only.

Is your piggy nebula green?

Code 403 is Lily White used by Toyota from68-75, 451 is Colorado Biege used by Toyota from 68-71. Your paint code should be on the drivers side fender well ID tag and probably will not be either one of these. It should be a two tone paint code (ie 267,277 , etc.) which may ultimately lead back to one of the above codes as part of the mix.

I haven't stuck my head in anything (pig-wise) earlier than my 76. On it, it's on the fender wall ID tag...so you could be correct for earlier pigs.

All this color code talk has me wondering what my pig looked like of the line. I was convinced i had a 1970 fj55015513. But my color code couriosity made me break out the flash light. The driver door says Nov. 1969 fj5515513. and the frame number under the hood says the same. I look thru pig picks all the time, and rarely see one that has the same blinker set up. the title and the truck are very close . i don't know what my question is, but i always knew she was special.fj55 1970/1969

do you have the small blinkers that mount on the apron instead of the fender? if so, yes it is special, in us, only the 69's had those.
