Hi Everybody,

I've been lurking for a while, and thought I might register and introduce myself and my 45. I assume that's the proper ettiquite?

Desert Sarah would like to be able to pick your brains occasionally as she begins replacing mechanical bits and on her 82 FJ 45. She used to live in colorado and had a much beloved 74 Fj55 there.

Tony Toyota has just finished a year of body restoration (50% new sheet metal!) with many expensive repairs and is feeling much better now. He runs great, but will need many, many new parts.

I'm highly motivated, but mechanically I am profoundly ignorant. This makes me about as qualified a mechanic as anyone else where I live. Interesting things are breaking already, and my driveway is a grease slick of p/s fluid and mysterious wires at the moment. I'm having a great time, and enjoying the challenge of sourcing parts and understanding wiring diagrams.

Looking forward to seeing you guys around. Best Regards,

Sarah

Thanks for the warm welcome! I love my truck, and I'm thrilled to have it out of the shop.

Beaufort, here's two, are they what you're looking for? If you want a shot of a specific component, describe them in clear- idiot proof terms and I"ll take one and send it on. Out of curiosity, What's different on mine?

thanks,

there seems to be four different configurations of the vacuum lines on the 82ish 2F engine. Your pictures narrowed it down to one possibility. Do you have a single vcv like in the attached picture.

sorry for the hijack everyone i just have not seen this setup

Welcome to the board.

If you ever decide to return to Colorado, don't forget to bring your 45 with you.

very cool rig!

welcome to the club, i'd bet money you'll like it here. besides, we need more cruiser-chicks on the site and on the trail. are you really in oman right now? will you be able to bring the 45 back to the states with you if you decide to return one day? .........

Outstanding LPB, Desert Sarah! Thanks for posting those pictures.

Good morning,

THanks to everybody for the welcome, I'm looking forward to picking your brains as the need arrises. I should mention that I had little to do with the way the truck looks now beyond financing the project and standing around poionting. Full credit for that should go to the six lovely Indian guys who spent the last year slaving over it and reassuring me that things looked worse than they really were. I'll try and post a picture of them.

This restoration was really done on the cheap, taking advantage of the inexpensive labour and raw materiels available here. THey really did a bang-up job on the body and the frame. THe amount and quality of sheet metal work they had to do was impressive. Some things look good, but are far from original, like peices of the dash which are carved from wood, bolted on, wrapped in something soft, and covered in vinyl. Looks fantastic, bit it's a far cry from stock. It was a real act of diplomacy keeping the guys from "indianizing" the truck, I came in one week to find the intirior kitted out in tassles and christmas garland, and they were debating what sort of blue lettering and painted fliowers would look best down the sides. "Madam, we are making more beautiful. Truck is most nice now..." they were devistated when I said I just wanted it in the red and black. Bless them.

Answering a few questions in chronological order,

1) Beaufort, I feel really retarted, I can't find my VCV. even with my trusty haynes manual. (sounds like the punchline to a joke...) I'll take a few photos of where I think it's located and I can email them to you if you'll provide an email addy. Sorry.

2) Madams, If I ever get back home I'll bring Tony and a few of his buddies with me. Please enjoy the gorgeous Colorado spring and summer on my behalf.

3) Brian, in spite of trying for a couple of hours now, I can't seem to upload anymore photos to the Ih8mud message board thingy. If you PM me your email address and I can email. THat goes for anyone else who would like additional photos.

4) Orange and Green, I'm really in Oman. I live in Muscat. I have american parents, and an american passport but I live and work in the Middle East. Geographically, We're located south of the UAE, S-E of Saudi, East of Yemen. Mentally, We're located somewhere close to Jamaca. It's paradise, but rediculously hot.

More as it happens, thanks again for making me feel welcome here.

Best Regards,

Sarah

interior Picture

Here, is the interior. Take note of the stiched vinyl covers over my wooden dashboard. Also, little four leaf clover shaped knobby thing under the right hand side of the dashboard is made of wood and metak, painted black. We couldn't source one, so the guys made one! Cheez-o-riffic, but really nice looking in person.

Dashboard looks fine

I think your wood/vinyl dashboard pretty sharp.

You haven't seen it all until you've seen an old van in the US with carpet or fake fur glued to the dashboard with construction adhesive (Liquid Nails). It looks even better after the material has been removed and the glue residue is still stuck to the dash.

That's a very sharp truck, and I'm glad you stopped them before they added the regional touches ;-).

Your wooden windshield knob looks just as good as the original plastic ones, and I'm sure works just as well, besides being unique and therefore fun. They're often available on EBay if you can't live without the plastic OEM version.

Nice upholstery but.....where is the heater? :D

I imagine that three in front is lot more comfortable with out the heater box. Did you have any of the body panels replaced and if so, where they custom made or did you find a pre-made source?

Oh yeah, welcome :flipoff2:
