Hello to all,

Just got back from my metal fabricator and this is what we have come up with. I still have to put the captive nuts and drill the holes but what do you guys think? This is the exact copy of the original.

Yes sir, they will be available to the entire Mud community. We used 16 gauge cold roll steel.

Well done.

Does your fabricator have a manual or CNC punch? Or even an "iron worker". If so he could punch all the holes including the square notches in the stiffening channel before bending it all up.

As for what they are worth, I don't know. I'm not in the market for those but I've not seen them reproduced before. There was mention recently on MUD of a place to source the white rubber material with the correct pattern in it. If you're gonna sell'em, may as well offer that too. Some place in NY had it apparently.

Keep at it

How about some shorties?
Shorties? Yes sir, I just need some dimensions and I can re-produce them exactly. If you have a set you can send me to re-produce - I will sell you the first set at a discounted price.
Awl_TEQ- we have a fabricating shop. I have 5 sets in production right now complete with holes and notches.

Cool - always good to see more part reproduced

the shorties from my recollection and the trucks i own are only on the fixed top so probably not as much demand

Yes but they came on all FJ25s imported here and the FJ40s up in to 1964.

Where are you located? I should have a set or two laying around.

Hey, don't try to get in on my discount action! I'll have to check mine and see if they're still solid enough to get an accurate reproduction.

Really wasn't trying to cut in on your action. Most times when someone posts up looking something is because they don't have it. I wasn't looking for a discount since I already have enough running boards. Since I was just offering to help I will that back.
Carry on

Nice shop - definitely my kinda place

The one machine there is something I don't have. Looks like a typical manual sheet metal shop. We've phased out most of our manual machines and gone mostly CNC strictly for speed and volume of production. Frankly, any monkey can push buttons on CNC machinery but it takes a guy with smarts and experience to do manual layout and forming. This shop is more than capable of making side steps and most anything else really. Didn't notice a welding area but it's there somewhere. See a spot welder, hydraulic presses, shears, hand brake, layout tables, grinders, mill. Also a lathe and blast cabinet that aren't being used much. Good stuff. Doesn't look like a duct shop. I'd be curious what industries they or their customers are in.

But enough about the shop - this thread is intended to gauge interest in a great product the OP is re-producing.
