I found this 1961 fj25(thought was fj40) in the junk yard today the tub is in great condition two rusty spot on the sill and the rest was just surface rust...I saved some of the parts but most were gone. I am going to go back and try to buy it tomorrow they could not come up with a price, the axles were good and untouched the front end was gone both master cylinder the clutch and brake looked very different but they are toyota.

rear wheel wells would indicate 40........., good luck with the purchase

someone stole the eyebolts..............soft top none the less

Well worth saving... Good luck.

Sides of that look very straight. Not to many of those early fj40 FST tubs left with those curved door openings, probably not to many in the US to start with.

Hope you get to save her...looks like a great restoration project...lots of the missing original parts can be found with a little time and luck!

Did you get the vin number for this early 40 off the frame?
Would be interesting to see just how old it is...

FYI, there was a rolling, very early, 1961 40 frame, tub, and a few other parts for sale in Redding CA for about $500 (no title) ...might want to keep that in mind when talking price...

EDIT: ...and if those parts you took off bother you to much, I might be interested in em ;)

QUick eyes..

Good work, save that for sure. Too good, too rare to go to waste.

I know guys who'd kill for that patina.

Would love to see the VIN on this one, it looks to be a very early '61. If you look at the dash to the left of the glove box you can faintly see 4 screws that would have held the tire inflation data on the FJ25 models. I have only seen this in FJ40's that were very early off the production line.

61 and 62 both were without a ashtray in the dash but you can see this one has the large gas cap opening. Just that and the gas cap are hard to find parts. Curious what engine was mounted into it. That looks like a very cheap home made motor mount on the passengers's rear.

Here is a 62 tub I bought a few years back for $1K https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj25-owners-group/231024-look-what-followed-me-home-weekend.html might help put a value on this if you serious thinking of buying it. I didn't get the frame but the tub is in really great shape. Included both axles but I only took the rear since I didn't need anymore axles. Front seats and windshield.

Looking a little more closely at this picture it appears the VIN is written on the rear quater panel there...... so possibly it is 1-FJ4010433?? making it the 433 produced worldwide

Dang, missed that...good eyes JP!!
Hope this one can be saved...

I wonder if it has a spare gas tank with a skid plate . The rust on the rear seems to be in the corners more then the center if the sill. A spare tank skid plate protects the rear sill from the build up of dirt which holds moisture. The rear corners are easier to get to to wash and it has been my experence the center will rust just as fast as the corners maybe even faster because of a lack of cleaning.

I wonder what happened at the back end? That is what looks like what is left of the OEM license plate light mounted to the rear sill.:hhmm:

If the original gas cap is still there it was the same as a 25 and would be quite the score for someone who doesn't have one. Original cap was locking with a very domed shape or non locking with a TEQ stamped in the center. Axles aren't worth much (if anything) so don't overpay for a tub.

Nice detective work guys.

Don't forget the frame. But it appears to have piece cut out behind the passenger's rear motor mount. The steering box bracket has been removed as well. This poor thing has really been picked over. Most all the brackets and switches are already gone. It still has the brackets for second arm on the jump seat jumps. But I'm guessing the demand for those isn't to high.

some sweet coilovers.... no one wants retro coilovers? lol

I have frame pieces to patch back in as well as the steering box mount :D

I SPY: OEM safety chain eyelets on the back there welded into the hitch. B pillar lower soft top brackets. Clips for the tools on the rear inner fender. Soft top hinges. Warn coarse spline hubs. One tailgate hinge?

OP was informed about all of these this morning except the jack handle clips on the wheel well. Don't seem to be hard to find those. But I did mention the tail light brackets. Those seem to have a market also.

I would buy both the tool brackets, and the tail light brackets. I did buy some tail light brackets not too long ago, so they can still be found.

That said, I would rather see someone restore this thing...if not, parts are good :)
