There is a lot of discussion on this board of options for inexpensive rear bumper options. The discussion has led many to believe that there is no low cost option that provides better departure angles and the option to have a rear tire swing out. However there are some viable options possible. One of which is utilizing the factory center bumper section and ditching the plastic sides for something that can handle a bit more.

It was attempted once here...

HEFTY rear bumper wings NO LONGER AVAILABLE

But this option was just too high priced to be a real option over a complete rear bumper.

However I spoke with Brandon @ MetalTech and he says they may, if the interest is there produce a tube version.

Here are some ideas...

I am not a fan of the super high tubes but if a tube option would be cheaper to produce that could handle a tire swing out then I am game.

Tell 'em you want them!

Wouldn't keeping the stock rear crossmember keep the departure angle nearly identical to stock?

I would be interested if they could integrate a spare tire hinge?

X2 I'm right there with u.

Hefty is no longer made and were expensive for just wings. If MetalTech can come up with a lower cost option these would be golden.

I'm interested. I emailed them.

Price the hinge & you'll see why they aren't out there - plus, you need a safe latch, and a keeper pin/latch assembly to keep from overtraveling the tire (or to keep it open on an incline) & having it swing all the way into your quarterpanel.

Hanna's bumper isn't in production any longer, and he was using some real QUALITY hinges & latches (probably why it was part of the name, really!) - you couldn't beat Ken's hardware **disclaimer** -I've never been up close to Slee's - Christo's looks like a real rival for Ken, quality wise.

I weld tons of crap (done it for a profession sometimes too!), and really the Luke DIY bumper is a bargain based on the hardware - it all adds up real fast!

I toyed with the idea to just cover my Cruiser costs (building stuff for people) - the rear bumper is just expensive when you want swingouts. Pay to play in effect right there.

Or maybe just integrate a mounting plate to add a spare tire hinge if desired............

No email back...i guess it was a pipe dream

It's only a matter of time....
