I am wondering if anyone has a picture of a 3F(E) and 2F water pump side by side so I can compare heights from block to flange?

I am contemplating 3FE swap into a Piggy and just want to see these two pumps next to each other so I will be reassured that I can keep the radiator in factory location...

TIA,

youre going to run into the issue that a fan clutch and related fan will not fit into a pig that doesnt have the ultra rare(some '79's only) 2 core radiator.

IIRC, the water pump pulley flange heights are the same from 2F fan clutch style water pumps and 3FE waterpumps. the pulleys are the same.

Thanks Brett, so if I can locate a fixed fan they used on the Piggies, I should be able to make this go!

Not sure. the non fan clutch water pump uses a different 2 groove pulley. the pulley flange height on the non clutch 2F water pump is actually taller, but the fan bolts directly to it. You might be in for a bit of press work to get the 2F non clutch shaft and bearing assembly into the 3FE housing, which IIRC is what has to be used on a 3FE due to some house outlet issues as well as accesory mount issues???

Now you got me thinking...

As for the fixed fan, you just need the non fan clutch waterpump, pulley, and fan from a 1975-78 FJ40. they are the same from what I recall.

But a 2F waterpump will not bolt to a 3F block, will it?

Nope, been there, done that. CDan actually pulled one of each off the shelf and we did a side by side. They are not the same bolt pattern.

The flange on the water pumps can be removed and changed to another flange...
In other words, you can put a non-clutched fan on a later water pump just by swapping flanges. Just need a puller.
If the 3F water pump shaft is the same diameter as the 2F water pump, you could put the stock early non-clutch fan on it.

Gotta love CDan - he checked FJ60 2F pump and a 3FE pump and the flange to block height is the same. Looks like the bolt pattern for the fans is the same as well.

Comparing the 2 above referenced water pumps to the 1975 & 76 pumps, the '75-6 pump measures ~ 1 3/8" taller, but the bolt spacing for the fan is different. So I should have room in the Pig, but a fixed fan from '75-6 will not bolt on a 3FE pump.

The flange from a '75-6 won't fit on the 3F pump shaft?

TIA,

Remember that the block height is about 3 inches shorter for the 3FE. So are you measuring from top of block to pump or bottom pf block to pump? The fan is lower than the 2F, but sits no further forward than the 2F.

I have a 3FE sitting in my garage and a '76 2F in the truck so if you want a pic of something let me know. I wanted to swap the pumps so I looked at the pulleys and they are different (2 belt vs. 3) but the overall depth is the same.

I did not even think about height of the fan - I was just thinking about depth behind the radiator...

Depth is no problem. You will also probably need to swap the bottom part of the engine mounts from one side to the other and turn them. This will raise it up to the same hieght as the 2F. But I'm pretty sure it will be lower.
