My brother owns a 2005 LX470. He has a lot more disposable income than I do and he wanted me to research how to have better headlights. I did a small amount of homework (evidently not enough) and purchased a set of Lifetime LED 9006 and 9005 from Southeast Overland. I assumed they were plug and play.

I looked on Rockauto and typed in 2005 Lexus LX470 and it called for High Beam is 9005 and Low Beam is 9006 replacement bulbs. So I called Steve at SEO and ordered a pair of each in LED. I went to install them last night and ran into a problem. I got the high beams in but the low beams don't appear to be anything like a 9006 bulb. WTF?!!

I am going to attach some pics and ask for any advice on how I should proceed. Did I just order the wrong bulbs? Has his truck been modified prior to his ownership? I'm baffled but then again it really doesn't take much to baffle me

Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this subject (pun intended).

No idea as to the '05, but my '01 has H1's as low beams.

Steve

This may sound silly but you do realize that the high beam is Not the projector lamp and that the high beam also acts as a daytime running light using a ballast that halves the voltage to the light during daylight operation, concern with this is how will an LED bulb react to a voltage reduction during daylight operation? I'm interested in this as I have added HID's to my projector/low beam and I still can't stand the orange light that the high beam displaces during daylight running mode!

I am the one that sounds silly. I should have done more homework on this before pulling the trigger.

I do realize the high beams are not projector lamps. I did not realize that they pull double duty as the DRL's. I installed the 9005 Lifetime LEDs into those sockets last night and my brother was very pleased with the light output. Now that you are telling me that there is a ballast that effectively halves the voltage, I have no idea how the LEDs will react. All this new information just makes me want to drop some F bombs!

The good thing is that if they will not work in my brothers Lexus, I have a 2001 LC and a 1992 LC that they probably will work in. I know neither one of my trucks has projector lights.

So can anyone say definitively if the half voltage is going to ruin these lights? Also, can anyone give me an idea how I can upgrade my brothers lights to a brighter whiter light and still be plug n play?

Thanks.

Would also be interested if I can plug in LED into my existing headlights with not modification?

How about some photos of the exact bulbs and where you bought them? Quite interested for my 2001
Well, I was going to do a separate thread with a review of all aspects of these bulbs but since I ordered the wrong bulbs for my brothers truck and am still figuring out what to do, I will post up my first impressions here.

I purchased them from Steve at Southeast Overland. As said before, they are Lifetime LEDs so they are lifetime warrantied including the fan motors and even if they get drenched. Steve said they also have a 7 day "no questions asked" warranty so if you get them installed and are not happy for any reason, you return them.

Packaging was very professional and quality.

The bulbs and fan motors have a nice solid feel to them. I believe the housings are an anodized black aluminum.

Outside of that, that is all I know about them currently.

I'm scared when an LED generates more heat than a halogen bulb

I always thought LEDs were supposed to run cooler than halogen when running at the same power?

Metric tlc has a thread with a group buy and excellent info on led bulbs....

Thanks for your business and sorry you are having issues with your high beam headlight install. I checked Sylvania's website and it calls for a 9005 for high beams so that checks out - and it calls for an H1 for low beam so that might be the issue. We don't have H1s available currently but will in March. Just hollar at us at Sales@SoutheastOverland.com if you want return those headlights. We will give you a RMA and get them headed back our way, postage paid. We can either give you your money back or send you a pair of replacement H1s when they are available.

Also, we keep many of these headlights in stock in our store and the warehouse almost always has them in stock now. Shipping is usually same day or next day out the door so availability is very good.

Thanks again!

I'm interested in seeing how a H1 LED light bulb performs in a stock or aftermarket projector compared to a quality HID bulb setup in that same projector.

Any updates on the LED headlights? Ever get them all sorted out? how do we like em? I got the itch to spend more money on my truck...

From my days working with LED fixtures and drivers, the LED probably generates nowhere near the heat that the halogen bulb; the fan is likely just assisting with thermal shedding to keep the (diode) junction temperature at a reasonable level...if this level is not maintained at or below a specific temperature, LED output/life drops precipitously.
