Got the gauges wired up! Now just need to finish the turbo install and get this thing boosting. Also finished up the exhaust. Still need to heat wrap it once it’s tested for leaks.

Looking good. Watch out for that cruise control cable running on top of the hot side of the turbo... don't ask me how I know!

Yah thanks for the heads up, that dump pipe will get wrapped and maybe ceracoated.

What muffler did you use?
Not sure to be honest. Got it in 2020 for my old 80. 2.5” in and out stainless, it’s pretty long. Here’s a pic when it was new.

I've been trying to run down starter and battery problems for a while now. The starter problem plagued us on a long trip down in South America but we thought for a while that it was a faulty battery terminal connection or a problem with the starter kill switch we have on the rig. The faulty starter wasn't consistant so identifying the problem was challenging. While the rig was in the port in Montevideo waiting to be shipped back home the battery went dead and they had to jump it to load it the container. It was doa when it arrived in Houston but I was able to jump it and get it home. At that point I was able to use a smart charger to charge the battery. Pretty quickly it became apparent that I had some sort of parasitic draw draining the battery. I have a lot of add-on electrical systems so trying to isolate a parasitic draw might have been very time consuming. It turns out that the first thing I unplugged was the ScanGuage2 plugged into the OBDII port. The ScanGuage wasn't going into sleep mode and was pinging the multiplexors at the gauges. It was pulling 2amps with the car off. Ruined a battery (fortunately covered by warranty). Replaced the starter and unplugged the ScanGuage and all better. The manufacturer stands behind the product so I'm going to send it to them along with the cable and they'll sort it out for me.

I often see people in the forum comment on how much of a dog their 1FZFE is. Well here is a video of mine.

Dead stop to 50mph. Engine is new (not rebuilt, new) 16,000 miles ago. Stock gears and 315’s, no other mods, elevation is about 2,500ft. It’s no race car but it isn’t a total dog either.

I hope that helps some of you compare yours vs mine.

Cheers

My 94 always ran like a scalded dog when it had the 1fz. Here is the last pull before pulling in shop to do engine swap. 315s, stock gears, stock bumpers on. Magnaflow muffler. CEL for o2 sensor.

I honestly think a lot of people’s issues with their 80s stem from babying it and never flooring it. They love revving and will bounce off the limiter for as long as you want.

Same thing (except front bumper was off) 3mo later😎

Finally wrapped up my quad headlight conversion with using Holley Retrobright headlights. Rather than document all the detail, I'll just put the video links here which cover everything you'd wanna know about converting to quads

Also installed a new spoiler with integrated chase lights made by Snowbound Customs. Very cool new product. The guy was originally making these for 3rd gen 4Rrunners and recently started making them for 80s. Aluminum, come in powder coated black or bare aluminum. I went bare and spray painted it to match the rest of my truck. Spoiler is made for flush mount Baja S2 lights although he recently made an adapter to run some of the cheaper Amazon versions which is cool.
