I bought a really neat winch off of Craig's list yesterday. It is a ramsey 8000 # dc9-1. 1960's vintage. It is kind of unique because it is a spur gear winch. Most of Ramsey's winches are worm or planitary drive type. It has polished aluminum housings and hold 150' of cable. The thing is built very stout. Inside all the gear run on needle bearings and the drum runs on huge brass bushings. Everything was included and it is all original. oh and i forgot to mention it still works. The spool and the free spool clutch housing seem to be the same one that is on their 12000 # worm drive winch. Anyhow it is cleaning up very nicely and it looks like some thing that should be on a shiny new fire truck or maybe santa sleigh. I like it. I will post more pictures once I get it restored.

Nice find I like. 8000 lbs on first wrap of cable
Is that how all winches are rated ? Does the cable pull strength go up or down. As the cable spools out ?

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD

First wrap has the most power. The rating goes down the more wraps on the drum.

Finished it up tonight . She is nice and shiny. I may get rid of the yellow paint on the rollers seemed like a good idea at the time but kind of over powering.

Read the fine print in the ad...it's for "jeep" vehicles. Won't work on an FJ (and stop calling it an FJ).

Ya Know..Monsieur Pig has a point,
It is meant for a jeeeep, so to help you avoid any embarrassment..i am willing to send you the money you paid for this antiquated, defective device, you send it to me, and I will and mount it...I mean dispose of it properly...

I was waiting for some to notice that little jeep add and the FJ thing. I'm new to the forum and wanted to see if you guy's were on the ball. Congratulations you passed the test. :)
