Looking back, he did not realize the impact of the near misses he encountered while completing his day-to-day work until he returned to Canada in 1994."

This story led to a full scale Wikipedia rabbit hole expedition this morning into the fascinating and wildly complex history of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the Nagorno Karabahk region. And the Caspian Sea thrown in for good measure. Really makes you think that conflict is the default, steady state for humanity and peace is just an accidental temporary aberration.
