So I had so much fun over the weekend with the FJCs that I have talked Kevin (Boston Mangler) into joining me for another trip down there on Jan 27th. I want to be out there with a bunch of 80's this time. I plan to leave early Sat. morning and try to arrive in Borrego around 9am. I figure from that point we can run a trail early and then head over to Lower Coyote and climb up to Sheep's Canyon where we can set up camp for the night. We ate lunch at Sheep's canyon on Sat. and it is just a PERFECT place to camp. We can have a fire there but will need to bring our own wood (I am going to save a pallet from my restaurant to give a good start on wood). I would like to run a trail or two on Sunday depending on time before heading back to LA. I am only familiar with Lower Coyote at this time and will lean on you guys to help fill in the other trails that we run. I think that the campsite could accomodate 10-15 rigs without a problem. I know I will at least have 1 passenger and maybe two. This will probably be my last run for a while as I will be a Dad soon and I want to live this weekend up.

Meet & Greet (9:00 am - 9:30 am):
XL Gas Station
525 Palm Canyon Dr
Borrego Springs, CA 92004

WHO IS IN WITH US?

Hey Smitt.. your better off just buying a bundle of firewood from the grocery store dude. Pallets are a PITA. It will be done burning in half the time a $6.00 bundle of real wood would , plus the crappy nails you have to pickup after.

hehehe i said "wood would"

Anyhoo., i doubt i'll be able to make it.. the GF's b-day is around that time and i might surprise her with a helicopter ride to Catalina WOOT!

Gotta pass Smit. Was gone last Sat. with you, Stan and the FJ's and I've got a ski trip with the scouts the weekend before your dates.

I'd like to try and make this. Was thinking about a run that weekend anyway. Got to check with the :princess: though.

I've been other places in Anza, but never up to Sheep's Canyon. Is this an all day event (9am - nightfall)? I would prefer to drive back Sat, as I live fairly close.

Easy drive back to SD after Sheep Canyon. Stan and I did Laguna Niguel - Sheep Canyon - Laguna Niguel in a day. Sheep Canyon is a beautiful place to camp. Will be cold at night!!! We had a late lunch about 2-3 and the sun had dipped behind the hills and the temp started dropping rapidly.

may want to leave Coyote for later in the day. It's only about 1 hr, maybe 2 to get to Sheep from BS. Not quite enough to fill a day for a hardcore Socal80 dude like you guys! You can do Calcite Mine Rd or Truckhaven in the a.m., then do Vista del Malpais or Font's Point on the way over to Coyote (if you come from the East). If from the West there a couple of trails on the way to BS that seem interesting too.

I am in for sure! Lets set up a meeting spot and time!

added it to the first post. I actually stole that from the thread for the run this weekend. Let me know what you guys think. We can be flexivble if need be. It worked great this weekend as that gas station has a very large (24 rigs!!) staging area.

I'm definately interested. What happened on your guys' last thread? You were talking about heading toward the snow and then the thread just died. I wasn't interested in going in the direction of snow but love Borrego. Unfortunately I don't know the areas trails so I just follow. Keep me in the loop. I have two dogs so I have to plan around them.

Okay, I know the gas station. Just gotta make arrangements.

Might be able to make a day trip. We gotta include the drop offs or Truckhaven or something good. Eric is right, the trip up Coyote is much faster without a buch of FJ's. :flipoff2:

Bluetribal mentioned that the 78 was closed I will see what I can find out.
EDIT: According to Caltrans it is entirely open, nevermind.:D

It is very day tripable too. 78 was open this past weekend. I am more than happy to run one of those you mentioned. I know nothing about them. I def don't anticipate the trip up coyote to take long.

Dogs are great with me. We really didn't know of any good snow areas that other people would be interested in. I don't know the other trails either and hopfully will also just be following.

Hope you guys can make it.

Are you locked?

Personally, I don't think you'd have a problem out there.

Interested in maybe making it out on sunday only..... What is planned for that day??? Any info on this let me know Smit......... Thanks.....

I did Coyote Canyon last year stock height. Devil's slide as well. If stock height FJ's with 31" tires can get up Coyote Canyon, so can you on 32's (275's) in an 80. Just locked the center in low. No front or rear lockers needed.

Sliders would be nice, but not really needed.

yup, I think you can do the S. Coyote bypass in a stock 80 without damaging anything. Might have to be a bit careful in some spots with a decent spotter, and may scrape once or twice but doable.
Most everything else in the area is just sand or dirt so tons of trails you can very easily do.
