So i had a pretty good Christmas week. 12/23 I lost control in my Tundra while traveling too fast in the mud down Mule Canyon in Calico and smashed the front end into the canyon wall... $4800 in damage.

Christmas Eve I was driving the 80 cause the Tundra was smashed and a woman in a Mitsu Lancer ran a left arrow red right in front of me while I was traveling 50-55 on hwy 76. Slammed on the brakes as I entered the intersection but you can't exactly stop an 80 from 50MPH in 30ft. I tried turning away but still caught the passeger rear spinning her around and totaling the car. Luckily there was a witness that came forward to support my story of her running the red. Her insurance company has accepted 100% liability for the accident with the damage estimate at $3400 for the 80.

My thought is I may ask for a check from the insurance company and just order replacement body panels from Cruiser Parts and prob get the entire truck repainted. Thinking maybe a satin/low shine/low maint desert sand or black. Should still have cash left over since the parts and shipping come out to about $1000. Dont need the highest end paint job since the truck gets beat up anyway and can prob get away with $1000-$1500.

As you can see, the DO front bumper took the hit pretty good. Only scuffed the powder coat.

GAH! hope everyone is ok, sounds like it? here's to new years luck turning around.

i vote desert sand with retro white roof, but that's just my dream ;)

Garry,
Sorry to hear about both your vehicles. Regarding the paint colors, I think either one sounds good, but check out this satin green on this FJC I saw recently:

Good to see someone with a realistic view of the cost of painting a car.

I have always liked the DO bumpers. I didn't know they made one for the 80. I checked the site and nothing. Whats the deal?

He does not make one for the 80 and made this one custom for me.

I've thought about doing the PIT maneuver plenty of times on people with my 80, but never had the guts. Congrats!!!!!

Glad you're ok. Looks like the DO bumper did a stellar job of standing up to the force.

What about pics of the car you destroyed? Always, always, ALWAYS get pics of the carnage of the other car, it's what validates the -VS- threads... Otherwise, you may as well have just hit a tree...:bang:

Well, pictures never do it justice but here they are. Taken at night with my phone. The other thing that the pics dont show is the roof and driver side body panels are rippled as well.

How hard would it be to make one of the FJ cruiser style bumpers fit?

That basically is a butchered FJ bumper skin covering an internal tube bumper.

moar pix of the bumper!

Glad to hear you're okay, and that the truck survived without major carnage.

As for a color change, I'm not a fan of doing that because you can always find fault with color changed vehicles. Paint chips will show the old color. Door jambs, underhood, sunroof tray, etc. Also, resale value plummets. I know many people with color change remorse.

IMO if you're going to change the color, do a custom shade of the original color. Or matte. But matte paint is too played out around here....

Matte is NEVER too played out! I LOVE GUNMETAL

The way I drive this thing I cant be too concerned about resale value. :grinpimp:

As far as more bumper pics...here you go:

80s are tanks, glad to hear that someone backed you up.
