Poll attached to this thread. It'll close 2 weeks from today, or earlier if we come to a decision before then.

Our Xmas Party/URE Workday is Dec 2-4. That's the weekend following Thanksgiving. Usually, the club supplies the meat and members brings sides and apps. I've been talking to folks and finding that fried turkey and ham might not be the most desired meal for Saturday night, so...

I think the chili option could be interesting. The barn has power so bring some chili and a crockpot (or your camp stove) and either reheat what you made at home or cook it on site. I don't think we'd impose any rules for a first event but I'm sure we can come up with some judges and something for a prize (or 2). This option would require enough people to commit before it becomes a reality, and I'm thinking we could augment/Plan B some burgers & dogs as an option for those who don't like chili (or fear the pit toilet).

I'm also thinking of having a ham regardless of the decision because, well...it's a ham. 'Nuff said.

The other options in the poll are ideas to keep away from the turkey overload that most people will still be working off. Except the fried turkey option. That's obvious.

Please post up any ideas you might have and share your thoughts here.

The rest of the Saturday dinner plan will be the same as in the past. Members bring sides, apps, drinks, etc. to share with the group. Typical pot luck.

Please keep this thread limited to FOOD only. There will be another thread before long regarding the actual event.

We've tried doing a chili cookoff before but could never muster enough participants. I hope it works this time as nothing is better than trying 10+ unique chili recipes for dinner and who doesn't like Chili??? Commies... that's who ;)

On a side note...... who is going to pump out the horton house??? LOL

Assuming I'm able to go - I'll sign up for a chili. I have to warn everyone though, my chilis are bean heavy... you WILL be reinacting the blazing saddles fireside scene.

Ok, Mr. Taggart.

If I can attend it will be solo so any problems coming from the chili will be confined to a drafty 40. Might try to direct the fumes into the intake to see if it will make it run faster. However, I will eat anything listed above and will be happy to bring something to add to the feast. Suggestions will be appreciated.

Hang on, Al. Let me drink a candle first.

careful I hear that can lead to braining your damage, coyotes and hot pants.... maybe not in that order

I will bring chili!!!

Somebody better bring me some meatballs @lumbee1 lol

Someone better bring you a bumper dumper... can't have you breaking the Horton House again ;)

We will have meatballs at the Christmas Party.

Looks like CHILI COOK OFF for the win!

We need some more folks to sign up to bring chili. Please post up here or let me know. If you told me in person over the last week then I clearly forgot.

Let us know here if you plan on bringing something for the crowd (sides, apps, etc) so we don't end up with 100lbs of one thing, please! We'll post a list of what's still needed about a week prior.

This is also the place to discuss breakfast food for whoever plans on being around Sunday morning.

@JohnVee will the grill be available to cook burgers etc for those that do not eat Chili?

I can bring my small camp charcoal grill if not.

Stan, we will have a gas grill along with the 5 burner table top and the full stove with oven available. We had our family barn party this weekend and did a "soups and stew" theme. We wanted to be sure we had enough crock pot space so another shelf with recepts was installed. Unfortunately, I took too many shots and forgot to take a pic with all the crock pots in place.

The plan is to not bring the big cooker, but to use Kenny's gas grill and the charcoal grill (if it's still there) to cook the alternate foods. The club will provide something as an option for the non-chili eaters. Stand by.

No worries here John, no problem bringing something to grill.
