I want to say 5. Set the bottom on a flat surface, mesh the arm gears together and then measure from the surface to the rollers on the arm. They need to be equal.

Bypass it. Put a jumper in the terminal block direct to ground as illustrated by the red wire in this photo. You can leave the switch in place. View attachment 2050659

If I do this to bypass the safety switch does anything else need to be done with the safety switch itself?

No. If the switch actually does work it will be a second ground path. This is a pretty slick hack/work around
