it sounds like you are not a fan?
I haven't driven a truck with your setup, but I am interested in suspension design and I'm sharing the seat-of-pants performance differences I'd expect between flatter radius arms (drop brackets) and more angled radius arms (Delta arms or similar). I'd expect a performance gain in reduced brake dive specifically when going from drop brackets to the Delta arms, but you get that gain as part of a trade-off. I think the Delta arms are a sweet setup and I'm glad your truck is riding and handling great!

Cool, just curious your view on it. I'll have my drop brackets on my 97 here shortly (also with Dobinsons VT springs) so I can compare the two and see what kind of brake dive difference there is. I was expecting the ride quality to drop a little based on what I had read, but I have no complaints so far. It is a rig I built for play though so I have made some concessions with mods. To me it's just made it more fun. I have more modern options and I still choose to drive my 80 most days.

Time for a stereo upgrade. Loved the nostalgia of the factory head unit, but power and sound quality was lacking.

This is what I went with. This is not top of the line, but not a budget system by any means.

Alpine iLX-W770
2 - Pioneer TS-A709 2.5" Dash Speakers
Pair 3D printed dash speaker brackets by @MaxFab4x4 on etsy
2 - Pioneer TS-F1035R Rear Door Speakers
Pair 3d printed rear door speaker brackets (same seller as above)
2 -Pioneer TS-G1620F Front Door Speakers
1 - Pioneer GM-D1004 Slim Series 400W amp to power door speakers.
2 - Kicker 48CWRT102 shallow-mount 10" subwoofers
Kicker 46CXA800.1T 800W Subwoofer Amplifier
Metra 70-1761 Wire Harness for Toyota/Scion/Lexus/Geo 87-up
Boyo VTL17LTJ Backup Camera w/ LED + Active Lines

This took a while to get all wired up. Sound improvement is significant. The subs rattle your internal organs. My adult kids have systems in their tacomas they thought were pretty great, now they are left wanting.

Way more sound than a 50 year old needs, but "No Ragrets" as they say. While in there I pulled the cig lighter and installed a USB/2xUSBC charger. Then I ran my switch pro wire behind the dash up into the ash tray for a cleaner dash. Broke my ash tray drilling through it. Since the tray just holds the switch pro screen I don't really care - although I feel like I don't really have the option to start smoking now, so there is that. Didn't have any plans to so I think it'll be ok.

Also pulled the blanks for horizontal heated seat switches I plan to install once I get the wiring figured out. Having Carplay in the old 80 is a nice upgrade and the mic for phone calls is surprisingly better than I thought it would be.

I have installed the camera on the spare tire side swing out right above the hitch. I have fabricated a housing I will mount above it to protect it from myself when climbing up the back. Picture of that to come. Didn't care too much about a back up cam but the expense of it is mainly the head unit so I figured for $50 and a little time it was worth adding. This head unit has a front camera option too, I didn't bother.

I had installed these subs some time ago in my sleeping platform. I have a WitsEnd rear quarter panel mount I plan to move my GMRS radio and amplifiers to eventually. For now they are mounted to my platform.

Nice!

Always fun to follow my daughter in to town. I love my modded 94, but the stock (mostly) 97 sure is a good looking rig. I asked her if she's looking forward to school, she says "not really, but can't wait to drive the 80 on the way there."

in other news, we need snow! one of the worst winters on record as far as snow fall. I've enjoyed not having to shovel the extra 3-4 ft at home, but if it's going to be winter the snow should be deep.

It’s been a fun week so far. Still getting a little rubbing in certain situations. I gave the chute a decent effort, rear bumper drag really hindered momentum. Couldn’t get going again. Maybe just limitations of the driver. I had to be pulled up - by my brother’s Jeep of all things. I prob won’t hear the end of that. It was disheartening all around.

After cleaning up, refreshing suspension and baselining the 97 with my 16 yo for many months, we took it out on its first long Dad and Daughters adventure.

Cruisers always make a campsite look better. Even if it’s a paved one for a night.

Your 2.5" lift from Dobs...what did you really gain in height after install-3"?

4” from stock to 2.5 Dobinsons springs. I swapped to their 4” springs when I moved to 37s.

In that campsite pic above my 97 is on 2.5” dobinsons and 33 ko3s. 94 is on Dobinsons 4” and 37s. 94 is regeared, 97 is not. I also have sliders, skids, front and rear bumpers, fridge drawers, etc on the 94 - 97 had none of that. 97 is noticeably faster climbing mtn passes and gets better gas mileage - no surprise there.

Good Lord do I love an 80 series. Awesome photos, thanks for sharing.

Finally got around to installing my @Delta VS tailgate hatch I had powder coated. Quality item as always from delta.

Admittedly an expensive storage solution I probably didn’t need that bad, but I’m already in pretty deep with mods.
