Wrong kind of "chip". Any suggestions?

Spent some time under my relatively new to me 80 today. Noticed a chip here and resulting fluid all around. Any suggestions on what to do with it?

Chip is in bottom right of first pic and just left of dead center in the last pic.

Ah, laying under the cruiser exploring what's up there, very nice. Enjoy.

The oily film on that area is so thick I can't even pick out the hole :hillbilly:

No matter where it's coming from, best to just keep an eye on the oil level and leave the drip alone. Too many people tear it apart replacing seals and whatnot, only to end up with no oil pressure or some other issue. If it ain't (really) broke, don't fix it!

When has fixing oil leaks resulted in no oil pressure or other issues?

This.

By that logic we should never work on our trucks to fix anything, ever.

I should build a long range fuel tank that has a provision of 5 qts of oil so I can keep topping off on the trails

I got a buddy locally that happened to as well as I read a story similar on here a few years ago.

An oil drip is hardly worth fixing is all I'm saying, bigger fish to fry. IF I ever get to the point that a drip is the only thing left to work on, I'd be happy to address it! ROI for tearing the engine apart to save a few bucks and a few minutes topping off the oil is hardly worth it to me.

I have a friend that was complaining about the oil leak on his 80. He said...."Yeah it has about one drip every month or two!"....... I busted out laughing!!!

If he were to see the J**p ZJ my son drives, it leaves an oil slick in front of the house. We haven't had to actually CHANGE the oil in 12-15000 miles because we just pour more in!

to a degree I agree with the idea of leaving a small oil leak alone. In my experience landcruisers in general seep a bit over time and it is nothing to worry about. I usually worry about it when I start seeing a good puddle under the truck after driving it. If it is just seepage that gets blown around under the engine I leave it alone and call it rust prevention. :)
