I am planning to be there with a front end to do. I was hoping to have it done before now, but the schedule hasn't allowed.

Ahhh! Someone talk me out of putting an Aussie up front. Planning on doing a front axle rebuild and I have this mentality of "do as much as possible while you have it apart". I know I know, just throw an ARB up there! I wish...

Well it appears to be official that the Marlin seals for the 80 don't hold up that well. Noticed a drip from both sides on Lexi. Kelly used the Marlin seals on the rebuild just over 2 years and less than 10,000 miles ago.
Count me in on the group of front axle rebuilds. For those with 80's get the Toyota OEM seals

Ok. No go on a front locker.

Excuse my ADDness... Now thinking about new longer shackles and removing some leaves from my rear mega-pack. Looking for more flex and a smoother (less bucking bronco) ride.

I'd rather have a metal shop cut out the side plates and I'll weld them together than buy some. I have stock length shackles now and would like to go to 5.5" eye-to-eye. If I'm making them I'll go ahead and do anti inversion. Is it worth buying greasable bolts? Any thoughts on a shackle project like this?

greaseable is the way to go.

Sounds like we have several 80' series axle rebuilds, Charles, I assume you are talking on your 40. Erik, can you get the SST here for that rebuild and your box of shims?

yep.

Yep, planning on the 40. So long as all you 80 guys let us shorty guys play with you. ;)

Bring it on! Erik told me long ago, with great power, comes great responsibility…. I don't know where he got that from…. anyway, his box of shims and set will make it easy.

I have lots of extra parts too, so we should not be left hanging. Charles, if you can get here on Friday, I will get you in the garage backed up, so we have plenty of room.

Decided to go with a line lock set up. Got the parts in yesterday. I'm going to get everything assembled prior to the wrenching weekend.

I still need to do something about my trailer situation. I took the trailer to a machine shop. They want to build drop in, drive over ramps and would be happy to do it for $800.00. Yeah! I'm still kicking that around.

I also need to work on better rock lights. The 4Runner has one pair on it now. I have two pair on the Samurai that I could put on the 4Runner along with a pair NIB.

So I have all the parts for the front end rebuild, but I'm not sure which grease is recommended and in what quantities. If any of the you tube videos are accurate, it looks like a 5 gallon drum will suffice.

And yes Kelly, I should be able to make it Friday night. I may even take the afternoon off for Oklahoma Joe's and then Olathe Toyota. Though I probably won't make it to Molle Toyota.

Charles, are you changing bearings while you are in there?

Waiting till the last minute as usual and Cruiser Outfitters is out of stock on their axle rebuild kits. Not sure what exactly is missing though. Going to order Marlin's

I need to take a closer look at what came in the set. But, yes I'm pretty sure there are bearings in there.

I will be there. I need to use the plasma for about 5 minutes to remove a couple of old spring hangers, and then use the tractor to flex out the suspension to measure for bumpstops and build those. Depending on how much the welder is being used I can always just get my measurements and make the brackets later. Other than that, I'll be there to help out with the axles.

Should not be an issue; however, if anyone has a lead on another tank for welding gas, I can set up my old welder and have two running...

So I bought the steering axle / knuckle rebuild kit from Cruiser Corps. This includes the knuckle bearings, but apparently not the wheel bearings. I'm having trouble finding those by themselves. Is that because they are not likely to need replacing and I should just clean and reuse my originals?

I can bring a CO2 tank if you want to just run that.
